Arsenal Celebrity Supporter Series: Prince Harry
By: Trent | June 1st, 2007
For the inaugural Arsenal Celebrity Supporter Series, we’re starting at the top. Or near the top. Or maybe near the bottom, depending on your monarchical vibes. Whichever way, let’s take a look at our first celebrity, Prince Harry.
HRH Prince Henry of Wales (or Henry Charles Albert David Mountbatten-Windsor if you’re nasty) is these days a 22-year-old tank commander who was recently banned from fighting in Iraq with his men. He’s apparently been dealing with the blow by scouring Bristol nightclubs for any signs of terrorists. Harry has however long been a fixture at Arsenal matches, including haunting the old east stand at Highbury.
Harry’s not the only royal who fancies footy from time to time. We learned earlier this season that his grandmama QEII likes her some Gunners as well. Harry’s poor brother William, however, is consigned to be a Villa fan.
Of course, there are plenty of other world leaders, including politicians and heroes and scoundrels, that say they support the Arsenal. There is the obvious, like MP Kate Hoey or even the former Archbishop of Canterbury George Carey. There are some less obvious ones as well, such as Fidel Castro, Zhou Enlai, and even, as pointed out by commenter Chris from AS Roma Offside, Osama bin Laden. To be fair, I’d say Harry’s famous Nazi getup doesn’t quite put him in league with that last group, in case you were wondering. But then, this certainly doesn’t either.
So, thanks for your suggestions in comments. We’re going to make this a regular feature, with more interesting targets (I promise! ). Until then, raise a pint for ol’ Harry this weekend.
