A Close Call: Arsenal 3-2 Sunderland

By: Trent | October 7th, 2007

It seemed as if Arsenal would cruise to yet another win after opening up a 2-0 lead over Sunderland after just 14 minutes. Goals from Robin van Persie and Philippe Senderos looked to be more than enough to handle the visitors.

But then…the Black Cats pulled one back in the 25th minute courtesy of Ross Wallace. And shortly after halftime, Kenwyn Jones equalized to make it interesting.

It wasn’t until RvP netted his second of the match in the 81st that the Gunners finally got some separation. Sunderland deserves a hell of a lot of credit for battling back from the initial 2-0 deficit.

A really nice win for Arsenal though, especially since home games like this one are nonnegotiable if they want to be there at the end.
