Arsene Wenger Has Had it With Your Lies
By: Trent | March 2nd, 2007Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has lashed out at a linesman from the Gunners’ 1-2 Carling Cup final loss to Chelsea. Emmanuel Adebayor was sent off near the end of the match for allegedly punching Blues midfielder Frank Lampard. Adebayor says it didn’t happen. Wenger says it didn’t happen. Even Lampard says it didn’t happen.
Which isn’t to say that the FA doesn’t think A-Dub has some ’splaining to do.
Here is what Wenger said:
The FA said:
“Questioning the integrity of a match official and accusing them of lying is a very serious claim to make as it questions the whole integrity of the game. We also reject any accusations of bias or dishonesty within our disciplinary system. We will be asking Arsene Wenger to explain these comments.”
The FA also says that Adebayor was carded for trying to punch Lampard, so that whether he connected or not was beside the point (but not to Lampard!).
At any rate, Adebayor, Emmanuel Eboue and Kolo Toure all face bans for this weekend’s Prem match against Reading. Add that list to injured players Thierry Henry, Tomas Rosicky, Abou Diaby, Justin Hoyte, Mathieu Flamini and Robin van Persie, and you can see that Arsenal will have only a skeleton crew available for the match.
