Carling Cup Redux: Or, Cat Got Your Tongue?

By: Trent | February 27th, 2007

Well, it really was quite a Carling Cup Final this weekend. The storylines were already fairly compelling heading in to the match, with Chelsea’s experienced side facing Arsenal’s B team of Young Gunners that had brought them through to Cardiff. And of course Wenger and The Special One are generally entertaining on their own.

Arsenal took the lead on a very nice Theo Walcott strike. That goal was erased, however, by two nice tallies from Didier Drogba. You can see the goals after the jump.

For his part, John Terry decided to swallow his own tongue for reasons still unknown. In seriousness, all of the players were visibly worried when the Chelsea captain went down after a kick to the melon. Luckily, JT pulled a Rulon Gardner and bounced right back, even in time to participate in the Blues’ post-match celebration.

You already know that the match ended in a bit of a melee. Not much I can add to that, except to note that the FA have charged both teams, plus Adebayor and Eboue individually, and that A-Dub has apologised for the whole affair. I’m never particulary interested in the bureaucratic response to these things; how about a trip to the timeout chair for all involved?
