Liveblog 3000! The inconsequential Greek road-trip edition

Make some tea or crack a can of lager, and read the preview.

Our kids and fringe players (and Vermaelen and Santos) are in Greece, looking to get some experience against a good side that needs to win to ensure they get anything out of the group stage.

I’m really looking forward to seeing more of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (not to be mistaken for Coquelin), Frimpong and Coquelin, as well as Yennaris and Miquel, who I thought played fairly well out-of-position against a strong City side in the Carling Cup.

Kick-off is at 7:45pm UK time, 2:45pm Eastern, 11:45am Pacific. Join us here an hour beforehand to blather on about Arshavin’s lack of playing time, AOC’s mad skills, Homey’s obsession with American football, or the noted absence of Mr. Fluffer.

just watched the "highlights" at aresenalist.  Wow that was sad.  Tremendous goal by Benayoun though, has to be said.  Sucks Lukasz is out; Mannone looks like an out of shape fat slob.

disappointed, but this was obviously a chance to try some new things with the team. I was hoping Mannone would turn out to be good, but it wasn't a great performance tonight. With Almunia going and Mannone quite possibly going nowhere as far as goalkeeping skills go, I hope Wojo mantains fitness since Flaps is out for a bit. When he's better, I hope he steps his game up too. We need a new striker as well... soo disappointed with AA and Chamakh.. what happened to them? I hope it's just a bad spell. Both were initially great for us and players much older continue to succeed. Wenger isn't the type of manager to sack them for the recent performances, either.

  • So what have we learned from this? Surely Chamakh, AA and Squizz must be sold in January. Chamakh at least tries a lot, but that's nowhere near good enough for Arsenal. His first touch is horrible, lost almost all his headers and has no goal scoring ability. AA simply no longer gives an f. Squizz...no explanation needed.

So we'd better buy a quality striker in January. Hopefully Santos isn't injured too badly or we will have no fit first team fullbacks, although Miquel has impressed me when he's played there recently.

Also, how shit are all our backup goalkeepers? Wojo better stay fit.

  • It's obvious much of the team's success is balanced on a knife-edge. People say all the time "we can't afford to lose so and so" but honestly we have very little margin for error with injuries at this point.

  • An injury to one of RvP, Wojo or Song would send our season down in flames. The weird thing is that we actually have 3 really good center backs and one decent one (Djourou). That hasn't happened in a long time.

Unfortunately, it looks like we'll be playing with all four CB's as our back 4 until Sagna and Gibbs get back. Wenger said Santos will be out for "a while".

  • Priceless.

    Poor girl

  • Arshavin's face is priceless. Ronaldo looks like he hates life as per the typical.
