Derby County Preview & Predictions

derby_county_badge.pngBefore I get into all that, I’d like to direct you to this story, which is pretty appalling.

Moving on, Derby County visit the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, featuring a matchup of two teams at opposite ends of the table. Arsenal currently sit first (and with a game in hand over several teams). The Gunners’ last two overall matches have seen six goals, three each against Spurs and Sevilla.

The Rams have had a much rougher start to the season. Derby sit one from bottom, owing to four losses in their first six matches. The hosts aren’t likely to be shut out, so the Rams will have to put some in the net in order to get out of town with a point or three. And with only four League goals so far this season, scoring has been at a premium. I like their captain, Matthew Oakley, but he’ll need to be spot on come the weekend.

I’m thinking Arsenal 3-1 Derby County, to keep Arsenal top of the table. This is really the kind of match in which the Gunners cannot afford to drop points.

What’s your take?

It could well be a tougher than expected game due to a combination of three ingredients:

    1) Arsenal’s exertions against a very good Saville side on Wednesday
    2) The injuries to two key wide creative players in Hleb and Rosicky.
    3) And finally the confidence in the Derby camp coming from their win against a Newcastle side which up till the defeat were unbeaten.

I would therefore say a hard fought battle in which there will justifiably be one outcome, a 3-0 win for the gunners and may be a lucky consolation goal for the visitors. I’ll be there to see it!!!
