Emirates Cup: Arsenal 2-1 Inter Milan
By: Trent | July 29th, 2007
Arsenal have lifted the Emirates Cup. Huzzah! The club has now won every single Emirates Cup ever contested, thanks to a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over Inter Milan.
Robin van Persie scored the winner for the Gunners, after an equaliser from Alexan–hold on. Alexander Hleb? Well, what d’ya know. Well done, son.
Earlier, PSG rebounded from their defeat to Arsenal by beating Valencia 3-0.

Not only did Hleb score, he scored off a rebound. His own rebound. Amazing.

hleb’s preseason training paid off i guess, he’s always had excellent touch and pacing but the confidence in front of goal he showed today was impressive. gibbs first team debut was glorious as well. one thing, can someone tell me why we keep playing bendter? he is awful, hleb looked like he wanted to fight him. send him back to birmingham, where he might actually do some good.

david, Bendtner has played a handful of games for Arsenal, hardly anything to judge him by. Wenger has to keep working with him. He has definite pluses: he’s very tall (we don’t have many of those anymore), he’s direct, he fights, he’s an opportunist in front of goal.
Also — Hleb is a very very good footballer. He did perform very well in a few games last season (esp. in 06). His problem lately has been composure — he freezes in front of goal. He has needed to work on his confidence and determination. With Henry gone, these kids seem to have found a new found freedom. Hleb has been playing well in the pre-season games, not just this tournament. He was very good in the one pre-season game we lost.

Robin’s goal was an absolute peach, and he looked dangerous from set pieces. I was really impressed with Eboue’s attacking play from midfield where had more of an opportunity to show his pace and his… shall we say… theatrics.

Another huge plus from this tournament was the amazing atmosphere inside the emirates. It’s not often a pre-season friendly attracts nearly 120,000 over two days. There was plenty of mexican waves and of course plenty of standing up to declare our hatred of the Spuds across North London.
Can I be the first to say that Kieran Gibbs WILL be an excellent player. He can dribble, pass, he linled well with Hoyte and Traore when he came on, and considering it was the first time he’s played infront of such a big crowed, he showed no nerves whatsoever. The future’s bright, the future’s Gibbs!!!
