Emirates Cup: Arsenal 2-1 PSG
By: Trent | July 28th, 2007
It wasn’t entirely graceful, but we’ve just been through a season that was an A on graceful buildup and a B- on finishing. With that in mind, and with a preseason-grain-of-salt, I’d say I’m pleased with Arsenal’s 2-1 win over Paris St.-Germain in Emirates Cup action.
Earlier in the day, Valencia defeated Inter Milan 2-0 in the opening match of the “tournament”.
Arsenal was paced by two first-half strikes, courtesy of Mathieu Flamini in the first stanza and Nicklas Bendtner in the second. Bendtner should have had a brace, but his penalty was saved by Mickael Landreau.
Peguy Luyindula pulled one back for the Parisians, but 2-1 remained the final score.

Being nitpicky here, but wasn’t Bendtner’s in the second half?

really happy to hear that. 2-1 victory! We-fans need more goals: the weakness of the past season has to be set off.

Welcome to the universe of Mickaƫl Landreau. It is virtually impossible to put a penalty past him. I swear he has a gift.

No, Abby, believe me–we welcome nitpicky! And yes, Bendtner’s was a 70th minute strike. Sorry for the confusion!

For the poor first half (poor for Arsenal), Wenger experimented with a formation that had no wide men, it was very narrow. For the 2nd half, he put on 5 subs and suddenly it was a different team. Still, great to see Flamini scoring after that poor 1st half.
