FA Cup sixth round

By: travis | March 17th, 2009

Kickoff is real soon and I’ve been too busy to write up a proper review, so time for a few quick hits. First things first: this competition is the only legitimate chance Arsenal has for silverware this season. You can’t really argue with that — while they are alive and kicking in the Champions League I have a hard time believing, that they have a realistic shot of winning sans Arshavin and Cesc. That remains to be seen.

A semifinal awaits the winner and I’m hoping that Arsenal gets revenge over Hull, who if you recall, won at the Emirates in the league this season. While their magic fairy dust has worn off a bit and things aren’t as rosy as they were at the start of the year, Phil Brown will have his players ready to give Arsenal a real go of things.

Team news, without a lineup, is as follows: Fabianski in goal, Arshavin in doubt although begging to play, Clichy might get a rest, Theo is in, Eduardo out and Gallas might be back in. Can’t tell the specific now, but I’ll post a lineup as soon as it’s up on the BBC.

Arsenal.com cruelly points out that Tottenham has won a trophy more recently, a cruel shot to any true Gunners fan. Here’s the best chance they’ve got to rectify these matters. Here’s hoping for a win and a semifinal against Chelsea at Wembley. Thoughts and comments below please.

Start of the second half. Djourou should have headed V. Persie’s free kick home. what a piece.

52 minutes in, possesion: Ars 71% Hull 29%. And were down 1-0. Lets find the net you Gooners. I like this XI though, minus Diaby. Needs some Freddy Adu or Michael Bradley.

    \ American Homer-ism.

YES!!! Hull’s keeper makes a mess of Nasri’s free kick and Gallas is in the right place at the right time to nod it in. Beautiful. Lets turn the lock and throw away the key. Bring on Chelsea!

Buckets… I’ll actually second your American homer-ism. I actually think Bradley would be a nice upgrade over Diaby, Denilson, or Song in the center of midfield. And he’s non-English and young. What’s not to like?

Well I think the Guru underestimated the tigers again by his starting line up. He redeemed himself by the surgical substitutions he made, and Mr. Bendtner actually was effective enough to cause havoc by challenging the incoming aerials. Nasri needs no explanation as the midfield general displayed his skills once again filling in the void for the injured and greatly missed Fabregas. Lethargic is the best way to describe the Gunners in the first half. Hats off to Hull for their determined at times chippy effort.
