A-Dub: It’s All Over
By: Trent | November 27th, 2006A Frenchman, when faced with the inevitable finality of it all, once said, “Tirez le rideau, la farce est jouĂ©e.”* Although that particular son of Gaul was Francois Rabelais, it seems that Arsenal gaffer Arsene Wenger is coming around to the same attitude about the Gunner’s title hopes this season.
A-Dub says he has no regrets about letting Nicolas Anelka leave Arsenal a few years ago despite his fellow countryman’s double for Bolton that sunk Arsenal on the weekend. Nevertheless, Wenger joins the growing chorus that thinks Arsenal’s title chances have gone the way of the Dodo, as they now sit thirteen points adrift of Manchester United.
Wenger sez:
“We are too far behind. If you look at the number of points we have dropped and the way we have played it is really difficult to take. You feel on one hand there is a lot of quality in the side, but on the other hand we cannot transform that into points, so it is very disappointing to be such a long way behind because I feel we have a good chance to play with the top teams.”
And there you have it. As I’ve said, I’m not quite there yet. Let’s hope for a nice result at the Cottage this Wednesday.
“Close the curtain, the farce is over.”

Sorry, Trent. As those of us who are Seattle sports fans (any team, any sport) will always tell you, there’s always next year.
And I have to say, this is the first time I’ve ever seen anyone quote Rabelais when talking about soccer. Nicely done. (Or: When you get whupped, wax poetic. It will make you feel better.)
