‘Manchester Will Give Up’

By: Trent | January 22nd, 2007

flamini_look.jpgIs that really what Arsene Wenger told the young Gunners at halftime of Sunday’s come-from-behind-win over Manchester United? Mathieu Flamini says yes.

“He asked us to remain focused and strong because Manchester will give up physically in the last 20 minutes. He said: ‘They are not the same anymore after 70 minutes’. Once again, the coach was right! We have to be honest, Manchester played very well and we had difficulties to play our game. They countered us very well. But Arsenal is not only a team that plays nice football, it is also a team that never gives up.”

Interesting. And it’s true that ManYoo’s three defeats this season have all been decided by late goals: Arsenal, West Ham and Arsenal yet again.

And Sunday’s match was incredible, a real nailbiter that must have made the boss look prophetic to Flamini. But the table is a cruel mistress, and she tells me that United are twelve points ahead of the Gunners today.

I think (hope?) that the stretch run is going to be more interesting than it seemed just a couple of weeks ago.
