Liveblog: Arsenal v. Shrewsbury Town

By: Brenton | September 19th, 2011

EDIT: After some preliminary checking, it looks unlikely that the match will be televised, especially in North America. We’ll do some follow up to see if we can find a stream.

How am I supposed to avoid a The Taming of the Shrew reference? Because I hate sports puns, that’s how.

Regardless of how Billy Shakespeare felt about Arsenal’s chances tomorrow, and despite Rich’s vehement defence of the Shrews’ special blend of defiant and energetic football, I would have to say that I agree with Homey’s preview: we shouldn’t misunderestimate them, but this should be a clear win.

This site and liveblog offer equal-opportunity commenting. Let us know who should have started, why Fabianski is god’s gift to Arsenal, or why Homey needs his head examined. But keep it positive.

We’ll go live an hour or before kick-off, in time to wonder at baffling Wenger’s team selection. See you back here at 6:45pm UK, 1:45pm Eastern, and 10:45am Pacific for line-ups and curse words.

Apologies to everyone who was trying to write in the live blog.  Should be sorted out now though.

  • Gorio

Homey doesn't know how to approve comments?

  • Homey are you able to approve comments on the live blog? I suspect there are quite a few in the queue..

  • torrit

why can't I post any comment?

  •  no one on who can approve them it seems

Young Guns is reporting this lineup:

    Fabianski

    Jenkinson, Djourou, Miquel, Gibbs

    Coquelin, Frimpoung,

    AOC, Yossi, Park

    Chamakh

  • Homey_Mills

I wish it could be Park up front and Miyaichi on the wing.  And Aneke instead of JCPT.  But Wenger didn't ask me.

  • Bumblefock

    sorry, what's JCPT?

  • Homey_Mills

Until proven otherwise, I'm calling Yossi "Joe Cole Part Two."

  • If it makes you feel any better, reports are that the Reserves players have been training in a more traditional 4-4-2 formation, so Park may very well play alongside Chamakh up front, with Yossi and The OC on the wings.

Also, supposedly Ryo is just coming back from an injury knock, which is why he's on the bench and not starting.

what a surprise...not shown in Lat Am (at least not in PTY).

i tried to get in, but I guess there s no live blog?

  • Homey_Mills

I think there will be a live blog, but it won't start until about an hour before kickoff.

  • Gigi_man

    still nothing, is it up?

  • Homey_Mills

My live blog is working fine, but nobody is there.  And I can't find a stream.

  • Gigi_man

I am writing but the comments dont appear, maybe its because we re losing

  • Is the match even being televised? I wasn't sure if there were going to be any streams available or not. If not, maybe you can just liveblog "Dr. Oz".

  • It won't be shown in Canada, that's for sure. I'm pretty sure there will be poker on our sports channels at that time. All the time, actually.

Leeds - ManU will be on all the ESPN channels, Fox, Sky, etc. It's looking increasingly likely that the game will not be televised. Hat over the wall* may not yield anything.

    * is this a Texas thing?

  • Homey_Mills

Actually, I think I heard it on CNN or some national cable channel, talking about politics.  For those who are confused by it, it basically means that if you come up to a wall and throw your hat over it, you've committed yourself to being able to climb it, or else lose your hat.  At the time I heard it, I think they were talking about a politician running in a primary, and saying he would get out of the race if he didn't get a certain result in a certain state's primary election.

  • Will it be this season's "thrown under a bus"? Here's hoping. I love a good, well-worn, stock phrase that CNN/MSNBC/Fox types can use repetitively like they all got the same memo.

  • Homey_Mills

I think what we're doing is called "throwing our hat over the wall."  Basically, assuming there will be a live stream for people to watch and comment on.  I really have no idea.  And we're still not sure who's going to recap or admin the live blog, but I think it will get worked out somehow.

  • You know that we're in a very mute state when we're discussing literature terminology on an Arsenal blog.
