Liveblog! #2! Arsenal v. Thierry Henry’s New York

By: Brenton | July 30th, 2011

First, a mini-peview:

We face Red Bull New York in a few hours (4:15pm UK, 8:15am Pacific, 11:15am Eastern) in our second Emirates Cup match. In the first set of games RBNY beat PSG 1-0, while we surrendered a 2-0 lead and drew 2-2 with Boca Juniors.

New York usually line-up in a conventional 4-3-3, with Henry often dropping into midfield to pick up the ball. They’re a decent team that struggles to win, mostly because their defence and keepers are slightly inept. We should beat them easily. But I don’t really care. I kind of don’t care about anything in this game except Henry.

Thierry Henry. Just the name alone conjures up images of a better time at Arsenal: the Invincibles, our Champions League run in 2006, our League wins… I look forward to hearing the cheers, seeing the emotion on his face, and so on. It will feel a bit like he’s back to help us out.

Enough sentiment, on to the reactive cynical commentary!

The liveblog will go live one hour before kick-off. See you then!

Come back for the match report when we’re done.
