A-Dub: It’ll Take a Lot More Than Becks
By: Trent | January 12th, 2007
Arsene Wenger has already weighed in on the Beckham-to-the-States move. And frankly, I’m a bit surprised at all of the hubbub surrounding the move. It’s not often that a football story appears on USA morning shows as it did today.
Anyway, the Gunner boss mostly states the obvious, noting that it will take more than Posh’s husband to set football alight in America.
“Football will only take off (in America) if Beckham’s not the only one. You need a few. Is that the opening road for more to come? If you want a real influx of big stars that’s what will be needed if you want to create a big lift for American football. One player will not be enough.”
And yet:
“On the other hand it can give a big boost to American football because they now have a basis. They had no elite and to have great players like David Beckham in the professional league can give a big boost.”
No elite? Has this man never heard of Andrew Shue?

You have to reckon that if Andrew Shue were still playing today he would probably school Beckham…at least in the hair gel competition at the All-Star game.
