Adebayor?
By: travis | June 21st, 2008After everything I’ve written and speculated, it looks as though the Togo striker may be on his way to either Barcelona or AC Milan for around €27m. And while I’ve panned nearly all talk as rumors, one has to admit that credibility goes up when they just don’t go away. What has me more convinced recently is this article in the Daily Mail. It outlines the willingness of Wenger to sell Adebayor and replace him with Roque Santa Cruz.
It’s painful to watch what has unfolded here. According to the article, Adebayor was asking for wages in the region of £80,000 a week. That’s a bit high, you’ve got to admit, for a player who has proved himself for just one season. Arsenal tends to usually show fiscal sense when it comes to paying its players (see Cashley Cole). Hard to picture next season without Ade, but if you think about the profit they would make off of him in just two years, along with his outrageous demand for wages, I would think the smart move would be to sell him. But this would require bringing in a solid, proven replacement. Not an 18-year-old striker playing in Ligue 2 or something like that. I hope that this post is more wild speculation and that I’m dead wrong. I’d like nothing more than to see Adebayor back at the Emirates next season. But I can’t ignore the signs, even if most everything in the press is fanning the flames of transfer rumors. This just won’t go away, and is being reported more frequently now.

It would sadden me to see him go, but I’d be ok with it IF Aresenal brought in someone like David Villa. I just don’t see that happening though. Almost seems like Arsenal is all about maximizing profits more than wins. It continues to make me sick reading reports that Arsenal “can’t keep up with the big boys” in terms of transfer fees and wages, when in fact, they’re one of the top 3-4 wealthiest clubs in the world. Ugh.

i like him, but imagine villa, eto’o, or benzema at the end of all our passes. if ade wants to be an ass and fuck off to spain, let him.

Josh G, sorry, but I imagine that none of those three will be coming to Arsenal very soon. Villa and Eto’o (especially Eto’o) will demand the kind of wages that Arsenal, will not more than cannot, afford, and Benzema will be at Lyon for at least another season or two. Hopefully Adebayor will stay and/or Eduardo will recover and have an amazing season.

eto’o is a closer possibility than villa of course. he may have high wages, but he is proven over mutliple seasons. adebayor has had 1 good one and now he (allegedly) demands 80,000 a week from us. we should wait at least til january to raise his wages. and benzema can be bought. we are the french team after all
i want ade to stay bc he’s tough as fuck, i want van persie and rosicky to stay fit, and i want hleb to start shoving assists and goals at us. but it looks dim on all fronts. lets hope for the best japple

Arsenal are one of the wealthiest clubs, but the are paying off the emirates stadium debts off now.Unlike Chelsea nad United, this is to ensure that we operate at a profit and continue to be successful in the long run. If Ade goes, I hope we get Yaya from Barca and a world-class striker.

I don’t know how many of you care, but winning the title just got a little easier to win. My friend in Madrid is doing a photoshoot with Ronaldo in regards to his transfer to Madrid. It looks to be true and will move forward.

ADEBAYOR’S MOVE WILL BE GREAT , THIS GUY HAS MISSED SO MANY OPPORTUNITIES FOR ARSENAL, IF HE WAS A REAL STRIKER HE SHOULD OF SCORED AT 30 GOAls , arsenal need a great striker, roque santa cruz is a good idea, i mean if he can score 20 goals playing for a shity team , imagine what he can do if he played for a team with the quality of arsenal.

Adebayor has to be one of the most OVER-RATED strikers ever. Let’s get real here. 8 of his 30 goals were against Derby and Fulham. He’s clumsy in that Kanu/Justin Fashanu way, he’s not a team player (just ask Nick Bentdner), he’s a hypocrite, one minute saying money means nothing, the next demanding to be paid in the same way as Tierry Henry, forgetting of course that Henry earned his dosh over many years, not just one full season. Too many of our fans I’m sorry to say are just plain dumb and can’t see how bad he actually is. Given the chance he always opts to shoot bottom right, and if I know that, how many professional goalkeepers know that. When Liverpool signed Torres they signed the real deal. Quality, and Torres took a 4 million pound pay cut to join them. That’s called dedication and something called Loyalty. Adebayor wouldn’t know that word if it landed on his two flat over-rated feet. Let’s get over 25 mill for this waste of space and tell him to F*** off.

I cant agree more , he’s probably The most Overrated striker in my opinion .
Well 30 goals a season is highly impressive as a statistic , but if you see how he has scored them , how clumsy he’s in the box nd i can still easily remember now about 15-20 1 on 1s he has missed this season , he is more a liability then asset to the club.
He has so many goals only because of arsenal style of play and the no. of Chances they create being more than ny other team .
Selling him would be gr8 deal nd will fund wenger to buy a proven Poacher n tats all we nead not a Goal scorer but a GOAL POACHER coz wit arsenal style of play midfield ceates all the chances nd as as striker you just have to beat the keeper .
I know hes too Expensive 4 Arsenal ( but can be funded with Ade departure ) but if Arsenal can get hands on BERBATOV ( of which i know there isnt much chance ) it would be perfect keeping in mind the arsenal style of play .
