Adebayor’s Mouth is Open Again; Manchester City Game Thread

By: Martin | September 12th, 2009

Adebayor decided to remind us all of why we sold him today ahead of the game by saying that any fans who booed him during his tenure with Arsenal are “not real fans” and “tomorrow they will support Liverpool.” He just doesn’t get it, does he? The relationship between supporters and players is just that–a relationship. If the player respects the clubs and treats the fans well, he will be treated well in return. If he’s constantly looking to go somewhere else and insulting the fans by giving far less than his best in important matches he won’t be treated well. As Paul McCartney said–”in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.” Showing your displeasure at a player who obviously has no love or respect for the club doesn’t make you not a true fan–far from it.

He also pops off at his old partner/nemesis St. Nick, saying that Bendtner “had it easy” and wasn’t willing to work hard to make himself a better player, and will never be a good player because of his attitude. Considering that Nicklas scored one fewer goal than Ade last year, this would also seem to be an implicit admission that he himself is not very good. Most humorously, he claims of his and Bendtner’s bust-up during the Tottenham game last season, “Nicklas showed me the finger. I am sorry, you cannot show your partner the finger.” Heh.

Anyway, onto the actual game. Lineups are in:

Arsenal: Almunia, Sagna, Gallas, Vermaelen, Clichy, Song, Denilson, Fabregas, Diaby, Bendtner, and van Persie.

Manchester City: Given, Richards, Toure, Lescott, Bridge, Wright-Phillips, de Jong, Barry, Ireland, Bellamy and Adebayor.

Bit of a surprise to see Diaby in there ahead of Eduardo–we basically have four center midfielders in there, so we’ll see who plays out “wide”–my guess would be Denilson on the right and Diaby on the left.

As always, feel free to leave your comments and thoughts on the game in the section below.

Come on Arsenal.

My point exactly – all of a sudden a seed of optimism as Rosicky comes on….

Great read from Rosicky, though he didn’t make a perfect pass…that was ALL Van Persie. I’m glad he’s finally off the mark. What a finish!

I hope this game is a wake up call to Arsene. We need more backbone and exeperience in the middle of the field or on the field in general.

SHIT!Once again we were the better team and once again we lost. Why is all this crap happening to us?!This season started so good and now this.I really dont have any reason to blame our players or Wenger or anyone for the lost.I just cant believe that we can be so unlucky.

But I still hope and still believe that we can win something this season.Especialy when Theo,Nasri and all the others come back.Stay positive guys!

Unlucky? I just think City were better than us. They are solid, yet can counter like Arsenal

The problem is we have a couple of people scattered across the field that destroy our continuity and confidence. The addition of Rosicky made a huge difference in this sense. Almunia and Diaby need to go. Denilson and Bendtner need to be backups

Let me start by saying that if players can be suspended after the fact- then Adebayor needs to be gones for 10 games at least. I felt sympathy for him with all the chants but after he neer Martin Taylored Fabregas’ ankle, then deliberately stomped on RVPs face, I could honestly care less how he is treated. Deserves every bit of it and although the media will make him out a hero for coring- he did nothing but clear corners all day. Not Arsenal quality.

Denilson had a horrible game. The introduction of Rosicky changed the entire complexion of the game. Having a midfielder with skills and an attacking mindset changed the entire teams mentality and it showed… Denilson should not be starting if Rosicky/ Nasri is fully healthy.

I know I will get slamed for this but Diaby is simply not Arsenal quality. The people that are convincing themselves that he has potential are absolutely mistaken. The man has had 100 games to develop and still hasnt. He needs to go.

Bendtner made nearly no contribution aside from clearing some headers. He is still young and has time, but I am not too comfortable with him leading the line yet. Should stay a backup for now.

And lastly Almunia. All I will say is that if we had an established, confident vet in his spot, I am confident there would be a “Rosicky effect” and the entire team would gel and defend better. He simply is nothing more then average and thats not good enough.

Its really a shame that we are risking squandering all of the talent up front that we have. A few changes need to be made in January…

As fans we need to stop looking at all the pretty football and justify us being better by keeping the ball and not putting it into the net. In football the team who scores more goals wins. Not how many passes we can string together drills in training. We lack a clear leader and some enforcement in the middle of the field. We all could see it loud and clear and a few games at the beginning of the season had us drinking the kool-aid. Right now we look like a middle table squad. 6 or 7th at best.

Disagree with Michael. Arsenal is not about “just winning”. Its about doing it the right way. Thats the philosophy. It used to work in the Invincibles days because we had that attitude and swagger that we lack now. Until we get players in there with confidence and talent, its just no going to work… I think we have most of the pieces in place though.

I cant hear it anymore. Some of you guys(not everybody but the majority)after we win a match are talking that we are the greatest and we will win the Premier League and then when we lose one we are the worst club with bad players and Diaby,Denilson etc. are the worst players you ever seen and the same players, when they play a good match, are the best and should be in the Brazil squad and are the new Vieras.I understand that you are fed up and angry but if you dont have anything smart to tell then wait a hour and just calm down.I am not talking about you guys here,I am talking about all Arsenal fans. And its not just the case with Arsenal fans, all football fans are doing this.

We lost two matches,it doesnt really matter if it was unlucky or deserved. So what!?We must look in front to the next match and we must have faith in our team.

Peevish;I am not saying that City was bad but we really deserved one point in this match. It was a really close game.

    Wow that was a game.

I’m glad that we lost. Why? Because it will shoot up once and for once the once saying that R.V.p. is great, saying Bendtner has potential and that Denilson will be someone.
I’ve always been agaisnt those three and I’ll reiterate my passion agaisnt them.

Then, what about Diaby? For God’s sake, he keeps possession of the ball, dribbles a lot and does nothing with it. He resembles a lot to Adebayor withouth his speed, power and arrogance.

Robin Van Persie, he might have scored, but the man is not up to the task. I did not see him. If we compare him to Adebayor, you would see what I mean. Even Bellamy showed better efficiency.

Alumnia shocked me. I thought he was better than this. I supposed that after last year awful season, he took for grated that the defense would be blamed for all the goal that would be taken.

Were we better? Not at all! What is the point of keeping the bal if we do nothing with it? To show that, even if we loose, we played beautifully? Not at all.

Adebayor, as I said it, it was a mistake that we sold him. The man had what it takes to elevate his game. City blocked us, counter us and played smartly. Touré + Lescott were just too superior to Bendtner + Persie…. Wow, it’s just too pathetic to state Arsenal’s offensive threat. Just to tell you that we were outclass…

Each time that Arseal had won a game, I was criticizing them. The wins against Celtic or a troubled Everton were not real tests. They were merely ways to adjust our formation. I never trusted Denilson though I have admitted sometimes that he played well, but nothing more.
I never appreciated Bendtner and same goes with Diaby.

If the comments were directed at me I will say that this is my opinion win or lose… Diaby, Almunia arent good enough- Denilson and Bandtner maybe in a few years. I just said it now because this game made it crystal clear…

And I disagree about RP. Give him a midfield like the one we had at the end of the game and awtch him take over…

I don’t get some of the players grudges? Move on to the new club…. move on….. don’t hold too many grudges.. you see that with Tevez still sulky over his transfer issues and now adebayor sulking over why he left arsenal.
I guess, some people just want to hold on to baggages in life and explain to a certain section of the crowd the situation and justify their move? Whatever they are doing now is just spiteful and not helpful at all… like we say… move on in life…
