Arsenal – Ipswich Town (Carling Cup) Match Thread

By: Martin | January 25th, 2011

Lineups are . . . well, not in just yet.

But Sairax is away this afternoon due to a family emergency, and I’ve got a client meeting and some negotiations that will probably stretch all afternoon, so no one will be around to post the lineups when they do come in.

One of us will hopefully be able to provide a match recap at some point, but if and when it does happen, it will happen quite late, so I wouldn’t wait around for it to pop up (and yes, I know, I sound like a proper asshole, assuming you all have nothing better to do than constantly refreshing this site to see what inane bullcrap Sairax and I will have to say about men kicking a little ball thousands of miles away — but indulge me in the fantasy that this is in any way important) this afternoon or evening.

But, you know, hopefully we’ll win and all that stuff. Please feel free to posts lineups or any sites which may be of interest to anyone stuck on their computer and not able to watch the match on their home television in the comments section. You can bash Arshavin or Denilson, call for Wenger to be fired, or discuss the Oscar nominations in the comments thread. Go nuts. We will return when we can.

Come on Arsenal.

    1) Finally we scored on a corner
    2) Bendtner goal was wonderful

  • FredJacob

To be honest, i really hate Arshavin not as a person but as a football player but i really wanted him to do well today since he assisted on two goals i which he could of gotten one of his own, but we he does not run, i saw to great passes into him and he was caught flat footed

  • Gigi_man

At least the pass for the third

  • FredJacob

    and on the second also

  • FredJacob

    Finals baby

  • WE'RE GOING TO WEMBLEY BABY!! :D

ok, now sub cesc and rvp off.

  • 3-0!!!

  • Frak yes. We're going to Wembley, boys and girls.

  • FredJacob

    Hell yea

  • Homey_Mills

On that 3rd goal, it looked like Arshavin was running at something almost resembling full speed. I haven't seen that in a long time.

  • AA is a fast player, just like walcott. at least he had an assist :) this is the main reason AW will not sell AA :)

  • Gigi_man

    faaaaabbbbbb the caaaaaappppttttt!!!!!!!!

  • Homey_Mills

Ugh... so much for our hopes in the Blackpool game.

  • Good thing I put some money on them to win when they were 2-0 down.

  • evaldo

    crap invincibles march on

  • not now, they still look like any one can win them. look at first half. few away wins for manu

  • Gigi_man

Agreed, it even looked as if Bpool did something another team used to do, since it was in the last 18 minutes that MANURE scored 3

  • Gigi_man

...and manure score a winner with 3 minutes left

  • Gigi_man

oh man the ref...what rule is he applying?

  • Gigi_man

    wooojoooo!!!!

  • Phil The Drill

Manure has levelled against Blackpool, scoring two goals within moments of our two goals. Guess we have to take the good with the bad.

  • evaldo

now we gotta keep it tight at the back! please please please

  • Casimir

And guess what? That corner kick was set up by little Arshavin actually showing hussle for once and putting that defender under pressure to concede the corner. See what happens when you run little Russian?

  • Gigi_man

hEY YEAH, GORGOT TO MENTION THAT ONE, aRSHA INVOLVED IN 2!

  • Again, assist to ARSHAVIN!

    Edit: Make that 2...

  • 2-0!!!

  • Homey_Mills

I think my eyes are playing tricks on me. Was that a goal off a corner?

  • Ha, finally it comes! Arshavin with the beautiful setup nonetheless :)

  • Casimir

  • Gigi_man

HAHA ACTUALLY i WAS SO EXCITED WRITING AND POSTING THAT THE SPEED DIDNT LET ANY COMMENT OF YOU GUYS APPEAR UNTIL i LOGGED OFF, FOR A MOMENT i THOUGHT i D APOLOGIZE FOR MONOPOLIZING

and now apologies for writing looking at the keys without noticing the locked keys haha

  • 100 times over I've said it, he belongs in Carling and FA...this is where his ego gets to shine against lower tier clubs.

  • JG

    BENDTNER! We're tied!

  • Henrytheo14

I wanna see one of you bartdender haters critisize that

  • Nothing to criticize, but simply shows where he belongs.

  • Gigi_man

I didnt see it that way, more the other way around, why not put him in that position in league games.
He was spectacular coming from one side, controling and shootong, reminded me of someone that I wont mention until I see more of this

  • So let me get this straight . . . :

Bendtner does something good in a Carling Cup match = just showing that he is a Carling Cup player and belongs at a lower level

Arshavin does something good in a Carling Cup match = shows that he is a quality player and belongs in the first team

Do I have that right, or am I missing something in your logic?

  • Also, I'm not trying to take anything away from what he has done in the League Cups, I'm actually saying he definitely belongs in them, it gives him the opportunity to play and win something.

P.S. Arshavin with another assist (2 on the day), so up the assist count for him. :)

  • Arshavin continues to pitch in with assists and forced corners in all league matches. His statistics prove accordingly. Bendtner has done very well in League cups, but I highly doubt he'd be pitching in the same in first team. As much as people down Arshavin, the following proves his worth:

Arshavin: 7 goals / 16 assists = 23 total points in 29 matches played (all competitions)...I'm not an expert by any means, but he's doing a mighty fine job if you were to ask me.

  • Gigi_man

I tend to agree with you, but subjectivelly :)

  • Homey_Mills

OK, I'm finally off the AA bandwagon. I really wanted to like him, especially after the way he started his Arsenal career. And this may be coming at the "wrong" time, since he did have two assists today. But he's usually one of the worst players on our team, including today. His work rate is by far the worst on the team. His body language is also poor. We have to take him off early when he starts, because he doesn't seem to have the endurance to last 90 minutes. Lately in particular, he's been losing the ball a lot, passing to the wrong team, etc. But the biggest thing is just his lack of running. I watch him more carefully than any other player on the team, due to his being so controversial. And time and time again, I just see jogging when other players are running. I don't see a lot of pressuring the ball when he doesn't have the ball. I don't see him coming back defensively to break up attacks.
Yes, there are some stats to back up your argument. But I fail to see how another player such as Walcott wouldn't have the same stats in the same situations. For instance, AA takes a ton of corner kicks. But how many gazillion are wasted before he assists on a goal?
Anyway, count me as off the bandwagon.

  • Gigi_man

Man it wil only be me...? well and Perry S apparently.

  • Fair argument and I could probably counter, but I'd rather not and just leave at it we agree to disagree about him. As I agree to disagree about the likes of Bendtner. I will make peace and just say, great win for Arsenal, the club, the manager, and the fans today.

  • Homey_Mills

Very nice goal by Martin's hero there.

  • Gigi_man

    NIIIIICCCCKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!

  • evaldo

    great goal by bendtner

  • Casimir

wow and I was about to reply to you and say to take him off for Walcott. haha. Finally Bendtner breaks through after being frustrated for most of the match. That was a pretty graceful play by him, I must say, especially since I usually knock him for looking like an awkward unbalanced baby giraffe.

  • Gigi_man

Adn the favour from Blackpool came to an end...,am what a day

  • JG

DAMMIT. the stupid mexican has equalized for United, it's 2-2 now.

  • evaldo

    united equalised

  • Casimir

Who do you put on? Chamahk for another target to head the ball? Or try beating them with our typical short passing and speed, and put on Nasri and Walcott (someone who you can play a more direct ball into space for?)

  • evaldo

i say walcott to get behind them and or stretch their d

  • SJGgumby

2-1 now. I have a hard time believing that Blackpool holds that lead, unfortunately.

  • Gigi_man

Thk God I am not a gunner if I was on the pitch I d be in rage...

  • SJGgumby

How long until we see Nasri? Hopefully before the 80th minute. And, shame on me for not including this in my first post today, but best wishes to to Sairax re her family emergency.

  • Gigi_man

    Chamakh and Nasri in anyone?

  • Homey_Mills

I've watched a little bit of the Blackpool game, and it doesn't even seem like a fluke result at the moment. If we lose our game, but Man Utd loses too... I think I'd almost take that.

  • Gigi_man

off subject: I just heard the commentators on Fox saying Adebayor is a done deal and goes to Madrid? 17 million dollars, how much did we get for him?

  • JG

No, it's a loan deal for the rest of the season.

  • And option to buy during summer...so its most likely permanent.

  • Westline79

Not trying to be results-oriented but my oh my do I wish Wenger could sometimes be objective about his players' performances instead of having a bit too much faith in those who have been stryggling for a long time... I'm all for rotation but some players really shouldn't be starting a cup semifinal for us if we really want to win it.

  • Patoux21

Arshavin again again and again. Even if he buys himself a pair of glasses and and some talent on his feet there's no hope when you miss three 2m easy passes. I have the bad feeling he's going to cost us a final. On the other hand Bendtner was ok.

  • He hasn't been terrible. I still wonder why he gets the brunt of the blame when the entire team is incapable of scoring right now.

  • Gigi_man

well they did park a bus in the 1st half.
Granted its noit nice, granted its ugly, but itsgetting them to Wembley, question of a million dollars; can we come up with a plan to break that wall? Because if we are not that accurate (and we werent) we can kiss this goodbye.
My thought would be...how about putting some balls from outside the box..??

  • Casimir

We tried lofting a few balls in and it's been somewhat successful. Van Persie was just offside that one time from the little lob in, RVP also almost had his second headed goal in two games from Bendtner's cross, and for all the bad people are complaining about Arshavin, he's had two good crosses, so we're putting them in.. we just need to finish.

  • Lord I hope Sagna hasn't occurred a major injury.

  • Weak shot by Cesc when he had better options. Is he trying to do it all?

  • Homey_Mills

    And now 2-0 Blackpool. Wow.

  • Did anyone else put money on them to win?

  • Homey_Mills

I'm going out on a limb here. I think if Man Utd lose today, Arsenal become the favorites to win the EPL title. At least in my mind.

  • i wish it happend, but manu won 3-2. damn berbatov. but still, they have a poor away record.

  • SJGgumby

For all the talk about "parking the bus", I feel like they've already attacked twice as many times as Man City did in that disgraceful game at the Emirates.

  • Homey_Mills

I don't want to jinx it, but Blackpool lead Man Utd almost at halftime.

  • Homey_Mills
  • SJGgumby

RVP just loves hitting the woodwork.

  • RvP missed an easy header, off a great cross from Bendtner.

  • evaldo

think sagna might have just gotten knocked out cold.

  • evaldo

    eboue man coming in

  • Gäst
  • Watching this is part of my birthday present to myself. We better win.

  • Gigi_man

well I am at home with a bad stomach, and I thought that to make me feel better we d be leading by 2...

  • Happy Birthday and I hope for all of us a win. My birthday was Sunday and I was greeted with a vehicle break-in as a present, hope yours is better!

  • FredJacob

    Go arsenal

  • Wojo kicks.... so awful !!! I'm laughing right now but it's not funny at all !!

  • Lana

    Starting line-up:

Szczesny; Sagna, Djourou, Koscielny, Clichy; Fabregas, Denilson, Wilshere; Bendtner, van Persie, Arshavin.

  • TJ

Denilson, Arshavin suck. True Grit was good. What else? Oh, Arsene is a saint.

  • Arsha has done fine thus far.

  • Felegy

Gotta get out and see that flick, now that it is up for Best Picture it will be in the theatres for awhile. Let's hope that Arshavin and Denilson are slightly better than sucking this afternoon. I have a feeling we will be seeing a lot of both of them.
