Arsenal v Everton Game Thread

By: travis | August 15th, 2009

Hello, and a happy Saturday to you all. It’s finally here, finally upon us. The 2009/10 English Premier League, and it’s another chance at trophies, new optimism to go along with the typical doom and gloom predictions Arsenal and Arsene Wenger attract on what seems like a yearly basis.

But enough of that. After a short summer offseason, it’s a return to the pitch against Everton. Starting lineups, if you haven’t seen them yet, straight from the BBC:

Everton: Howard, Hibbert, Yobo, Lescott, Baines, Osman, Neville, Cahill, Pienaar, Fellaini, Jo. Subs: Nash, Saha, Vaughan, Gosling, Rodwell, Duffy, Baxter.

Arsenal: Almunia, Sagna, Gallas, Vermaelen, Clichy, Fabregas, Song Billong, Denilson, Bendtner, van Persie, Arshavin. Subs: Mannone, Eduardo, Ramsey, Silvestre, Eboue, Gibbs, Merida.

Quick notes: no Senderos, so perhaps he will actually get sold ot Everton, no Wilshere (bollocks), and thankfull no Silvestre at the back. Not a very menacing bench aside from Eduardo.

As usual, all thoughts before, during and the after the game go below—including streams. Enjoy this one.

Come on Arsenal.

Not just 4-0 but some real quality with the goals. All of them have looked pretty nice. The only ugly thing on our team is Almunia. He seriously needs to do something about that hair.

I’m hoping we get some of our key guys off the field soon. The game vs. Celtic is coming up soon. I don’t see us giving up this lead.

yeah, you never know though. A shutout here would be icing on the cake to boost the confidence in the defense. Vermaelen and Gallas look solid.

    what a scouse-busting by arsenal 5-0

commentator-many people would re-evaluate the chances of arsenal for the league title

guess i am one of those person but really the very song n denilson that i have been criticising have come to shut me down

n i think this is gonna continue cos everton are one of the most difficult side to contain

Certainly need to keep this perspective, but doesn’t change the fact that it was fun to see as an Arsenal fan.

—>Even after this performance, I still persist that we need a holding midfield in case if Song gets hurt.

—>I’ve seen Merida on the bench which implies that he won’t go on loan (Still, the window transfer is still on, so we never know)

—>Many people said tat Bendtner would be “the most pleasant surprise of the season”, I’ll say tat price will be awarded to Alexandre Song. I’m feeling more and more comfortable with his presence at the midfield. Denilson, on the other hand, has incisive passes but I’m not too sure about him.

—>Travis\Martin: You should make a “player rating” thread which would rate the player accordingly to his performance globally. We, the readers, could then voice our opinions about the ratings if they are fair or not. This would be a great way to comment constructively on each player ad you could decide, afterward, who you consider to be the player of the match (for Arsenal of course…)
I’m just sending this idea, whether or not you like it it’s up to you. I hope that you’ll at last read it :D

Without the injured Van Persie and Fabregas whose are the life of the team while Alex Song and Eboue were called for African Cup duty, can Gunners still proceed?

Before this, Wenger’s side has been in a rich vein of form since their only home defeat against Chelsea at the end of November. In achieve of it, it is not fully depends on the effort of key players. Others in the team, Wenger and even the youngster sharing to contribute on these. As a result, Arsenal should able to maintain the hot form even if without some key players today. The exploded team morale will bring Gunners a victory against low form Everton who has falling off in this season.
