AS Roma Preview

Don’t look now, but the Champions League are back. It feels like just the other day the last fixture took place. Whatever it feels like, Roma is coming to town and I have no idea what to say about it. The young guns will be challenged again, and there is no Arshavin and Eduardo to hype things up. While this match looks fairly winnable, there is no way of knowing what sort of performance Arsenal is capable of.

Three points picked up out of a possible nine leave me discouraged with this CL tie. While Roma captain Francesco Totti maybe miss out on tomorrow’s fixture, the team that Arsene has at his disposal has done very little to show that they can take down a team like Roma. They haven’t had the best run of results this season, sitting in sixth place in Serie A, but players like Daniele De Rossi and and Alberto Aquilani have the ability to change a game. There’s no one, aside from perhaps Van Persie or Nasri with the big game pedigree that can step up and make a difference. Hence why I can’t forecast what sort of performance that this team will put in. Of late, they’ve lacked effort and motivation, something that can be attributed to a lack of depth. If there was quality coming off the bench — and not Eboue — players might step up in their drive to maintain a place in the first XI.

That aside, there is young talent that could step up and come away with a result. Recently, I don’t have a lot of confidence in this team. Maybe we’ll get a result, maybe we went.
