Bendtner, Denilson Re-Up

By: Martin | September 2nd, 2009

Denilson and Nicklas Bendtner have both signed long-term deals with the club.

Both players have taken quite a bit of stick over the past couple of years. And regular readers of the site will know I’m biased–I’ve gone on record as saying that Bendtner will score 20 goals this year and Denilson will figure into Brazil’s World Cup team (look at Brazil’s last roster–can you honestly say that Denilson isn’t a better option than Lucas?)–but the bottom line is that Bendtner’s goal scoring record was very solid last season, and Denilson led the team in appearances and I believe led the entire Premiership in tackles last season. Denilson has made a very bright spot to the season, and while I don’t want to get ahead of myself, this season could very well be his breakthrough year if he keeps it up. Bendtner has yet to open his account this season, and is still plagued by poor finishing, but has looked pretty energetic and has made some plays which led to goals. So yes, I’m pretty happy with this move, not that there appeared to be a legitimate chance of either player leaving the club in the near future.

Best of all, both players are 21 and will only get better. For all the criticism he gets here and elsewhere for not opening up his pocketbook, you’ve really got to give it to Wenger–no one in the world is better at finding and developing this kind of talent, and both players will hopefully play for Arsenal for many (trophy-filled) seasons to come.

I am starting to like Nicklas and I always liked Denilson and beside them there are Theo(20), Song(21), Vela(20), Djourou(22), Diaby(23), Ramsey(18), Gibbs(19) and Vermaelen is also 23.Our future is really bright. Our team is so talented. :D
But also there are Cesc(22) and Samir(22).Cant imagine how good they will be when they are 24 or 25.

How many other teams have a 21 year old 4th choice striker who’s a full international and scores goals in the double digits?

That’s Bendtner. And he’s not our only striker who’s struggling up front to score goals, so’s RVP. It’s a problem with the current formation, which allows midfielders to score like crazy but the strikers are struggling. Even so he’s created some fantastic plays. He also scores more away from home than at the Grove because the home crowd gives him so much stick.

Denilson’s come on leaps and bounds and statistically was the league’s best DM last season. Great news for both.

Always happy when Arsenal players sign new deals, as it shows they are happy at the club. Not that I think contracts mean anything nowadays.
I too think Denilson is on the brink of becoming a world class midfielder. Not sure about Bendtner – I’m totally on the fence with him – he could be good, as long as he manages to score regularly to get his confidence up – something he lacks in my mind, despite his occasional arrogance and lack of trouser security.

If they eventually find or groom some more young backs that’s an entire squad of potential quality as they gain experience and come of age.

Nicklas looked clumsy sometimes, but the fact is that he scores, not tons but he does. Denilson looked weak sometimes but he has strenghtened his game.
I like them both and I am happy that they resigned, plus they are so young that I am sure this season they will mark us.

Well both are grooming on to become really good players for Arsenal for sure. Good move to hand them new contracts and a much needed boost to their confidences(especially Bendtnar’s).
I would also like to add Song’s name here.. He has been in great form over the last season and is maturing to be a superb DM for Arsenal.
Ramsey is another player who is looking to be emulating Fabregas’s style of play. His finish against portsmouth was clinical and composed and his long balls are usually on Van persie’s head… Looks like we really have a world class CM in the making after Fabregas!!!

Thanks – now I can’t get rid of the image of Ramsey’s long balls on Van Persie’s head.
Must find soap to clean my eyeballs….
