Bendtner Limps Out of Denmark Training Camp; Catching Up with Arsenal Ladies

By: Sairax | March 23rd, 2011

Thought I’d give everyone some general updates during this interlull that we are all currently enjoying. I’m sure Martin would give some more updates, but he is preparing himself for a weekend boozefest, so you’ll be seeing a lot of me around.

First of all, Bendtner is injured. Yay! Who didn’t expect that? You can check him out limping on a really horrendous looking pitch by clicking on this link. We don’t know how serious it is at the moment. Reports say it is a minor ankle sprain, so best case scenario is that he sits out the Denmark games and then comes back fit for us after the break. I’m hoping this is all a cunning and elaborate ruse cooked up by Wenger and Bendtner to get him out of international duty. Everyone else does it dammit! Might as well try now that we have a shot at winning something still this season.

Martin let you know yesterday about the situation with Djourou. Kos has left France training camp as his girlfriend has given birth! Congrats Dave! Get in! In not so great news, Henri Lansbury has left the England U21 squad after picking up a minor knock. Gibbs is still with them though, and they will be streaming the England U21 game against Denmark and Iceland on the FA main website if you want to watch.

All of our other players look all right training with their respective national teams. Interesting note: the England national team is training at our very own London Colney. Not a huge story, but guess who showed up at the training session?

Holy crap! It’s crazy, mad Jens! See this is why I was so happy to hear we had signed him again. We get to see things like him showing up at England training. Is it too much for me to hope that his fist accidentally finds John Terry’s face?

Seeing as not much is going on surrounding the first team, I thought I’d catch up a bit with the Arsenal Ladies. Today they played the second leg of their Champions League quarterfinal against Linköping. They drew at home 1-1 in the first leg and today drew 2-2 away with goals from Rachel Yankey and Katie Chapman. They will now face Lyon in the semifinals of the Champions League. The first leg will be on either April 9 or 10 away from home. Good luck Gunners!

The Ladies can compete in the Champions League again next season if they win the FA Cup (the only other way is if they win the Champions League). They beat Everton Ladies 2-0 in the last round. Now, they face Sunderland away in the quarterfinals. This is a tough draw for Arsenal as Sunderland have a very good team, but we are by no means minnows ourselves. The match will be this Sunday, March 27, so make sure to check it out and support our Ladies if you are in the area.

Finally, with the collapse of the old league, the new FA Women’s Super League has been created and will be starting soon. Arsenal Ladies first game will be away to Chelsea on Sunday, April 13. You can see all of the ladies fixtures here. The first home game will be against Bristol Academy. To celebrate the new league and first home game of the season, the Arsenal Ladies will be hosting a Girls Festival where you can bring your young daughters or sisters, etc on the afternoon before the game. You can meet the team and participate in all sorts of activities. Again, if you’re in the area, it sounds like something fun you can do with the family. Support the Arsenal Ladies!
