Big in East Africa
By: Trent | November 1st, 2006Arsenal and its star striker Thierry Henry have topped a BBC Swahili poll as the Premiership favorites of Kenyans and Tanzanians.
Told of the results, a club spokesperson said:
As a club we are thrilled so many football fans in Africa pick Arsenal and Thierry Henry as their favourite Premier League club and player. We work hard to maintain links with supporters worldwide, through community outreach projects and supporter initiatives, and hope that those links grow stronger over the comings seasons.
One wonders if the results wouldn’t have been ‘Manchester United’ and ‘David Beckham’ four or five years ago. Nevertheless, it’s a nice reminder that East Africans have good taste in football.
