Chamakh sounds off on Bordeaux, Senderos still a Gunner?
By: travis | August 3rd, 2009Happy Monday to you all. It’s a rather quiet Monday aside from a red mist coming out of the southwest part of France. So if any of you are near, watch out, for Marouane Chamakh is a bit hulk-like this morning. Apparently, his move to Arsenal is being held up, something that has left him in a rage:
“I am angry. I am even disgusted. I don’t understand why people are doing this to me. Ever since I’ve played football, I’ve given my all for this club and for the fans. I believe I deserve more consideration.”
Watch out for his wrath, especially if you come across him and he has a case of the Mondays added to that. Lame attempts at humor aside, it’s hard to get a read on this situation from an Arsenal perspective. My guess is that Bordeaux feels low-balled by an Arsenal offer (if there is one out there) and has refused to see Chamakh. Considering that he is a free agent after next season, there’s certainly an important business side to this transfer that needs to be taken into consideration.
Add to that this team doesn’t exactly lack in attacking quality and that certainly gives no reason to overpay for a unknown entity like Chamakh. Though I will say that aside from Bendtner this side lacks in height in the attack. All that means is you don’t want to see a lot of flank play and crosses played in, because expecting Eduardo to consistently score via headers is a bit irrational.
Second point of the day is the lack of news confirming Senderos’ exit to Everton. On the one hand, he didn’t feature at all in the Emirates Cup, so it could just be minor details worked out. But no major media outlets have reported it, bringing in to question — at least for now — the validity of the reports that have him headed up north.
I’ve scoured every news outlet and both club websites for news, coming up empty. What does it all point to? I have no clue. At the end of the day, I expect that he’ll be packaged up and shipped out like every other player this summer. And brought in to replace him, will be a sack of potatoes.
Transfer news is quiet this morning, but no news is typical business for Arsenal. It is shaping up to be an interesting week with the Vieria rumors and reports of Chamakh trickling in about how he went on a rampage in the locker room at Bordeaux so they tied him down with a straight jacket. Not the player we’d want up in North London, at least if he’s got a bad temper.

i never understood the chamakh to arsenal deal – i suppose his goal scoring record is pretty attractive for last year, but you’re right about the temper. 9 yellows in 34 league games for a striker…that’s a worse percentage than wayne rooney.

I like how you’re getting as pessimistic and jaded as I am.

it so frustrating reading that man u are linked with david villa, and Sergio Aguero. chelsea is linked with frank Frank Ribery, pirlo, Sergio Aguero. liverpool on the other hand want silva, villa and aquilani. and we only want chamakh.

Arsenal just need help with defensive mid and one big striker and they could win the prem..

Gooner,Dont forget Subotic, Hangeland, Viera, Matuidi, Huntelaar, Cattermole and De Rossi. The main thing is who you buy and not who are you linked with.

Jon has a point, we have seen goals over the pre season and last season, I have always said that our weakness was defence and hlding midfield. Of course a full in the area striker wont be bad. Eduardo will be back this season!

Theo Walcott 14 non of them have the quality of the players linked to chelsea, man u, and liverrpool, well except for de rossi and huntelaar which we are not getting anyway!!
I agree with Jon we do need a striker, someone link Luca Toni, Gomez, Huntelaar, “pure strikers”.
I dont know what options we have for a DMF, but I think that Inler would be good de rossi would be better… dont know if we could get them though

Gooner,I dont believe that Chelsea will sign Ribery or Aguero the only realistic is Pirlo,ManUtd noone and Liverpool Aquilani. So they wont also get them anyway!
I also agree with Jon for the DM but I dont thik that we really need a ST with RvP,Eduardo,Arshavin,Vela,Bendtner and Walcott even if I wouldnt mind if we buy one.

Chamak isnt a pure striker. He is a very decent forward though. His name may not be as exciting as Aguero or Ribery, but remember what was Adebayor when he arrived at Arsenal. No one. And once Henry left, he was THE (efficient) striker of Arsenal.

Interesting and I kind of agree:

Am I the only one who absolutely doesnt want Chamakh??? Not good enough at all IMO.
And it may be worth keeping Senderos as a backup- he’s definitely better then Silvestre…

“We are a stable club who have weeded out the disruptive influences of Toure and Adebayor. Robin Van Persie has signed on again and we are a tight unit. It is going to be a good season for the mighty Gunners.”
I don’t agree. Touré has been with us for 8 seasons. How could he have been a bad influence? His altercations with Gallas could not have been the cause of his departure. Whatever it was, it seems that Wenger favored Gallas over Toure or was it that he had already thought of doing so in order to gain more money?
Finally, playing a 4-3-3 formation is the best. Arsenal is shaping itself like Barcelona. There’s one key component missing: the target man.
Song could be like Yaya, Fabregas like Xavi and Rosicky like Iniesta.
Then, you have Arshavin on the left or Van Persi, Edurado as the target ma and Theo Walcott\Vela like Henry.
Defensively very shaky because the defense would have to rely on Song.

MoMONEY : His name says it all: SEND-ERRORS. You see!Send errors away or else, they’ll cost you match with their incredibly slow pace.
I’m quite shocked to see how low he has fallen though. Senderos, at one point, was so promising and had so much leadership that after Viera’s departure, Wenger asked Adams if he should promoted him skipper.

I dont think we can rely on song that much as our main DMF, he is decent, but he gives the ball away to often, we need a more mature DMF. I think it is the only place where we should splash the cash on, or maybe use almost all the money from toure and adebayor to fill in the gap we have in midfield.
wouldn’t be great if we were able to to get both De Rossi, and Mirko Vucinic for 50 – 55million pounds (from adebayor, toure, senderos, eboue). I really doubt that they will reject the offer if we really do offer it.

Vucinic would be great to sign, indeed. But I still think the missing link is Holding Midfield, a Vieira type guy, or Vieira if we have nothing at hand.

“(from adebayor, toure, senderos, eboue)”
Almost perfect, except for Eboué. I don’t know why you rate him so lowly, but he’s an utility man. He plays right midfield and give new solutions. When he plays right back, he’s at his best.
—>I say: If Fiorentina were really keen to grab Eboué, they should have offered Melo as part of the deal. Arsenal would have paid ore for Melo’s services as he has proven to be a very proficient holding midfielder for Brazil. However, they sold him to Juventus and now, they are hoping to have him. (funny don’t you think).
—>Nonetheless, Eboue is an essential part of the team. He plays everywhere. He’s not the best, but he can dribble, defend, pass and cross. His style of play fits Arsenal’s way. Wenger knows it and won’t “get rid” of him unless a really good proposition (as example in Mela’s case) comes in.
—>Sell Eboue and who’s going to cover up Sagna? Djourou? This guy, as much as he doesn’t have to run, he’s safe(irony).
—>”I dont think we can rely on song that much as our main DMF, he is decent, but he gives the ball away to often, we need a more mature DMF. I totally agree. This position is way too open for the opposition. Tactically, Song is not ready yet. The same can be said about Djourou. (Especially Djourou…)Posted from

I don’t think expecting Eduardo to score inconsistently with headers is “irrational.” When he’s healthy, he’s the kind of pure spot-man that can score with headers and either foot.
In the Rangers game, at least the highlights, I had the fleeting impression that we might be cool with him. But given his health record I’m probably wrong…

I don’t think we def need a striker defence and midfield are the priority. Eduardo and Arshavin are key for us next season, lets just hope they stay fit
