Champions League Returns
By: Trent | February 20th, 2007
Arsenal’s plan to schedule a match every other day until mid-May continues apace as the Gunners face PSV Eindhoven in tonight’s Champions League clash. The match, which is the first leg of the tie, will be held in the Netherlands. Arsenal are slight favorites, although a lot of folks seem to expect a low-scoring draw.
Arsenal have had a lot of recent success against PSV in the Champions League, riding a four-match unbeaten streak. PSV Captain Philip Cocu has said that his side retains a great deal of respect for the 2006 runners-up. Nevertheless, the Dutchman rightly believes that the tie is anybody’s for the taking.
Speaking of Captains, Thierry Henry will be back at the front of the formation this evening, which will most likely be the 4-5-1 Arsene Wenger employed during last season’s CL run.
I’ll be interested in seeing how new PSV signing Edison Mendez does on the big stage. Mendez, who was one of Ecuador’s World Cup heroes last year, has proved to be one of the best signings in Europe this season.
