Clichy Out for Season
By: Martin | May 7th, 2009It’s official. I had thought we probably wouldn’t see him again as soon as I heard what the injury was. Whenever the words “fracture” and “vertebrae” appear together in the same sentence, it’s not a good thing.
And since we don’t really have much to play for in our remaining three games, there’s just no reason to risk re-injuring it. It’s hardly the same thing, but I got a stress fracture running a few years back and tried to come back too soon, which just exacerbated the injury. Gael just needs to take a long, restful summer until the team reconvenes in July.
Clichy is probably my second favorite Gunner, behind only Fabregas (although Arshavin is rapidly climbing the charts). Last year he was nothing short of spectacular, leading the team in appearances and using his quickness to get forward and involved in the attack while relying on his pace and wits to get back and cover any counters. I’d say our top 4 players last season were Cesc, Adebayor, Flamini, and Clichy, in some order. He was selected as the EPL’s top left-back.
This season? Not so much, unfortunately. He missed a bit of time due to injuries, and while he finally scored his first Arsenal goal against Stoke (although it just as easily could have been classified as an own goal), he didn’t register a single assist (versus six the previous year), and just wasn’t making the kind of penetrating runs he did a year ago. More disturbing, he made a number of bad defensive mistakes that led to goals or at least scoring opportunities.
But he’s still quite young and a good player, and I have faith he’ll bounce back and have many more productive years in an Arsenal shirt.

Dammit! You people need to stop breaking my French boys. We need them to get to World Cup!

Laurie–
You need to fire Domenech to do anything in the World Cup. Guy’s completely crazy–he wouldn’t pick Sagna or Clichy for the longest time, and he still hasn’t picked Phillipe Mexes for a single game if I’m not mistaken.

Not to worry Laurie Les Bleus have plenty plenty more, just count the number of key French players in the past weeks competition on all the teams.
Mexes has already played a couple by the way.
The best event would be Zizou in Toronto June 25.
Crossing my fingers to be able to go that night and not be assigned to work!Posted from

I love Gael Clichy! It’s really unfortunate that he’s out injured, but I like what Gibbs has done(except for that slip…). Hopefully he’s well taken care of and all the necessary precautions are used so he doesn’t become another Rosicky.
