Come On, Gooners. Er, Gooners (TM)

Not wanting even a farthing to be left unvacuumed, Arsenal have applied to trademark the terms “Gooners”. The application is still pending, so no conclusion yet.

But surely Arsenal know that the logical conclusion of such an act is the inevitable suing of its own supporters in court.

And after all, “Gooners” is a term invented by Arsenal’s fans, not some £50,000-a-week marketing firm hired by the club.

Arsenal, by the way, are no strangers to protecting their trademarks via legal action. In fact, this appellate decision from 2003 gives an interesting run down of the relevant statutory authority involved.
