Copa America Is Here!
By: Trent | June 27th, 2007
Hey, football’s not gone for the summer. Silly goose, the Copa America is underway in Venezuela. Often described as the European Championships but, um, in South America, the Copa America features the 10 CONMEBOL nations plus two guests divided into three groups of four teams each. This year’s interlopers are the United States and Mexico. If you’re a USA fan, don’t get too excited–the new coach is sending an absolute B team to the tournament. The official site is here. If you live in the USA or Puerto Rico you can watch the matches on the internet here. (It’s coming in great for me so far.)
I’ll be following Ecuador over at the World Cup Blog if you’re interested. And of course, we will also have sites for Argentina and the USA.
At The Offside, don’t forget to drop by the Brazil and Mexico pages as well.
Enjoy!

If you have DirectTV or your cable carries GOL TV you are golden. Every match is broadcast live and in English.

Many Brazilian and even more Mexican fans were crowding around an Irish bar in NYC’s Port Authority last night. Some couldn’t get in the door and just huddled by the pane-glass of the doors. It was an interesting cultural moment on many levels.

I’m watching the tournament on GolTV. Three games and three upsets — and in each game, one goal wrongly disallowed. Amazing tournament so far. Wonder if the “upset” trend will continue tonight with US-Argentina (the favorites to win). Brazil were terrible last night against Mexico. Depressing.

Hi Jay. Sorry the Univision set up isn’t working for you. All I can say is that it works for me, using Windows XP. (and btw, Brazil is beating Chile 1-0 as I write this).
Anyone else using a Mac and the Univision link?

Jay, are you using Safari? You may want to install Firefox. Works better with Flash.
