David Trezeguet as Thierry Henry Bait?
By: Trent | June 13th, 2007
Thierry Henry’s management is still denying that the Frenchman is leaving Arsenal this summer. Henry himself is employing that irritating non-denial denial that footballers love so much. For his part, Tomas Rosicky sure wants his Captain to stay in Norf London.
The latest rumour is that Arsene Wenger may bring in French striker and Henry buddy David Trezeguet to the Emirates Stadium as a way to ensure that Henry remains a Gunner. Trezuegut currently plys his trade with Juventus, which as his wife Beatrice, left, can attest is a plucky club that achieved promotion to Serie A this season. Trezeguet’s best days are behind him, methinks, but if Juventus is really willing to let him go for £5 million, then maybe it’s not so ridiculous.
But–is it really a good idea to bait someone like Henry by bringing in Trezeguet? Is there anything else that DT can bring the club besides placating TH14? Is it worth displacing Sheyi over this?
Finally, is is worth having yours truly think of those old TRESemme commercials every damn time I hear his name?
Trezeguet…Trezeguet…Ooh la la!

If the rumors are true, I will have lost respect for Wenger (assuming he wants them to play side-by-side – it’s dumb to have one of them on the bench). If you’ve ever seen them play together on the France NT (such a painful experience), you’ll know Trezeguet and Henry have no chemistry together. And I can’t imagine it will get any better on the club scene. This is one of the instances where too much of a good thing is bad.

This rumor comes from the Sun, Britain’s biggest tabloid. The same paper known for its wild speculations, invented stories and the many many successful lawsuits brought against it.

Even if David can provide can provide salon quality performance at a drug store price it wouldn’t be worth it because as noted, he and Thierry don’t play well together. Thierry needs skilled players who can create good team chemistry, not just a buddy on the squad to hit the strip clubs with.
