Deja Vu: Alonso Injures Cesc Again

By: Martin | June 16th, 2009

Not sure how serious it is, but apparently Xabi Alonso injured Cesc’s knee with a hard tackle during Spanish national team practice today. Cesc had to leave practice limping, and early reports say he will not play in tomorrow’s game. I will, obviously, update this story as it develops, but we probably won’t know how serious for a day or so. Until then, hope, pray, cross your fingers, sacrifice a goat, etc.

Am I the only one wondering why there is hard tackling at all during a practice amongst teammates?

    Homey–

No. That baffled me as well. Especially given that this is not the World Cup or European Championships, it’s the Confederations Cup. In preparation for a match against powerhouse Iraq.

And it’s not like it’s an isolated incident, either. Albert Riera injured Santi Cazorla with a hard tackle in the same practice. Maybe Rafa has told his guys to pick off their fellow SMNT teammates one-by-one?

    SMNT??? Spanish mutant ninja turtle???
Lol! What ever. Xabi will probably come crying over in excuses. But, look at the bright side, he’ll play alongside Xavi and Riera!

Yeah! One loss is another’s gain!
