Denilson, Bendtner Injured
By: Martin | September 28th, 2009Well, it’s Arsenal, so for every player that comes back from injury, another player has to get hurt. Just when it looks like we might have a full squad again, with Rosicky, Walcott, and Arshavin returning to health, a couple more players get hurt.
First, and most seriously, Denilson is apparently out two months with a “small” fracture in his back. It’s like that line that “minor” surgery is surgery that’s being done on someone else–if someone told me I had a spinal fracture, I wouldn’t think it was so “small.” Anyway, this sounds a lot like the stress fracture that Clichy was dealing with last season.
Bad news for the young Brazilian, who had looked pretty decent in limited action this season. He led the team in appearances last season and seemed to be coming into his own. At the very least, though, we’re going to need him healthy in January, when we will be without Alex Song due to the African Cup of Nations. Hopefully he makes a complete and speedy recovery.
In other news, Nicklas Bendtner is out of tomorrow’s Champions League clash with Olympiakos because he crashed his Aston Martin into a tree. He was apparently on his way to training when his car went off the road. Fortunately, he’s physically fine other than a couple scrapes and bruises, and Wenger says he should be fine to play against Blackburn on Sunday. And since he’s fine, we can make light of it…
No word on whether or not he was wearing pants at the time of the accident. And now I’ve got this song stuck in my head:
