Determined to keep Hleb. But why?

By: travis | May 7th, 2008

Well to nobody’s surprise, Flamini is gone. The rumors were all true. Sad, but I’ve pretty much said all I want to on the subject. Visit this post at gunnerblog for an excellent number of reasons as to why he left. To sum it up, Milan is a bigger club than Arsenal, and they are paying him far more. Easy to understand, yet hard all the same.

With that in the past, time to focus on the players we still have and if they’ll stay around. That brings us to Hleb, who has been flirting with Inter Milan. They took him out for ice cream which seemed to properly piss off Arsene. And I’m glad he got angry. And he talks about being determined to keep Hleb. Fans of Arsenal know Hleb to be all style and little substance. He can sure perform nice moves, but when it comes to putting the actual ball in the net, he falls way short for the withdrawn striker/attacking midfielder he’s supposed to be. Seven goals in the league? That’s not going to cut it. That’s three seasons and 84 appearances with just seven goals. Correct me if I’m wrong, but a greater return should be demanded of him. If he wants to walk, let him. As long as Wenger goes out and buys a suitable replacement. Arsene does seem to be adamant about letting no one else leave the club though, which is good, considering the midfield is looking pretty thin. Gilberto, please stay.

I do agree that Hleb seems to contribute little to the goal scoring exploits of the team. He is an excellent player when it comes to skill and style but nothing else really. I disagree with one opinion you posted. I think Gilberto and Eboue should leave. Eboue especially. Theo Walcott should be given the opportunity to develop properly and with Eboue being the starter I don’t think this can happen. Eboue has been relatively ineffective in most if not all the games he’s played this season. Sagna, as a defender, has been more effective in Eboue’s position as a midfielder than Eboue himself. I also read that Barcalona was considering a swap. Adebayor for Eto. What’s your thoughts on that?

I think both of you are wrong about Hleb. He’s been fantastic all season and the majority of Arsenals play goes through him.

He’s also versatile. Playing left mid, right mid and off the front man.

Goals isn’t what his game’s about. He should score slightly more but there are many great midfielders who contribute little on the scoring charts.

iam a arsenal supporter i,m really shocked about the leaving of arsenal play maker flamini and the announced depature of hleb and that shows possible distruction of the club because the winger does not want to buy an other best players and the club will end up futurless

if hleb is gone , let him … he’s the one thats loosing out not us .. hopefully , we can aspect a solid defense .. ; ”yaya toure… kolo’s brother has most likely decided to join arsenal and back his brother in defense .. he will be a perfect perhaps a better replacement for ”flamini” … also the replacement of ”hleb” has already been planned for ”arsern wenger” , we could aspect ‘’samir nasri” the great midfielder to take ”hlebs” position … hen is a goal scorrer and has perfect dribbling skills ,pace, athletically ecclesiastic and very skilled player … as far as now , i have been praising ”hleb” all my life … BUT FROM NOW ON AND THIS DAY DAY , HLEB IS NOTHING TO ME ! NOTHING!”

AND HE HARDLY EVER SCORED ANY GOALS .. YES , HE CREATED CHANCES .. BUT NOT GOOD ENOUGH .. GOALS WIN MATCHES .. ! AND NASRI IS A GOAL SCORERR , AT LEAST HE WILL SCORE GOALS .. IM HAPPY HLEBS GONE .. GUYS AT LEAST WE KNOW WHAT WAS ON HIS MIND .. IF HE REMAINED IN ARSENAL AND WAS THINKING OF INTER MILAN .. WOULD HE PLAY HIS BEST LIKE BEFORE ??? NO .. THE THOUGHTS OF INTER MILAN WOULD HAVE REFLECTED MOST PARTS OF HIS PERSONALITY IN THE PITCH ..
