Djourou Out 6 Months
By: Martin | September 6th, 2009
Not good. Djourou underwent surgery and won’t be back until March at the earliest. And we’re one step closer to having to watch Silvestre play. Ugh.
The injury was the one picked up on international duty last month, reminding us of why we hate internationals. Other than that, there don’t appear to be any other injuries to report. Arshavin sat out Russia’s game yesterday with the groin injury he picked up against United. Cesc came on as a sub for Spain in the 70th minute without incident. Tomas Rosicky did not feature in the Czech Republic squad who drew against Slovakia.
Not much else in the way of news to report. Needless to say, this makes it that much more important that Gallas and Vermaelen stay healthy, and all of a sudden, Senderos has gone from being on his way out to being a guy who may very well play an important role in Arsenal’s quest for trophies this season.
You also have to feel really bad for Djourou. The young swiss back has worked hard for years, and at times looked very good when called into action last season. Although not in the first-choice 11, Djourou figured to see plenty of action for us this season, and has now suffered a huge setback to his career aspirations. I’m sure I speak for all Arsenal fans when I say I hope he has a complete and speedy recovery–even if it’s not for us, he deserves to have a long, happy, successful career, and hopefully this will be nothing more than a speedbump.

i dont know about u guys but i always judged djourou as a back up
like wayne bridge for england
or paulo for yester year chelsea
or van der meyde for yester year evertona simple back up-not a necessity starter but a useful back up-even for the swiss(for those who don’t know they USUALLY start grichting(sp) n senderos )
anyway i hope no one has to take up the trouble of such a dreadful treatment
if i had things my way dictionaries wont know what injuries arei hope him a quick recovery

Gigi is right.Maybe this is a chance for our youngguns to get some playing time in the first team just like Gibbs last year when Clichy was injured and also a big chance for Senderos.
Senderos,Bartley,Gavin Hoyte,Ignasi Miquel,… Everyone is better then Silvestre

Well I wrote a while back that I was hoping Senderos would start getting some action, at least ahead of Silvestre. I also wonder if this 6 month thing would have been announced before the deadline, if we’d have actually bought another player. Ugh. We all see it coming, but AW doesn’t, I guess.

Bad news? No comment on that one. But, one thing is for sure: anything that can keep Silvestre out of the field is welcomed!

Im sure they knew about Djourou but if word got out then people would think we were desperate for a CB and the prices would skyrocket… Hopefully Gallas and Verm can stay healthy. Senderos can hold his own I would think but after that its definitely a worry

Chelsea fans complain that referee mistakes cost them a place in the cl final. Some are uttering the words “fix” and “conspiracy”. Chelsea coach Guus Hiddink didn’t agree that it was a fix, but could still “understand” the emotional spillover after the final in London.
What utter nonsense. The victory over two legs by Barcelona was fully deserved and justice was done. This, notwithstanding the mistakes by the referee, now seen as the antichrist by supporters, may have committed. If there was a conspiracy, what was the referee doing sending off Barcelona’s Abidal for a foul he did not commit, with 25 minutes still to go? Was that too, part of some antichelsea master plan engineered out of Geneva by UEFA?
The truth is Chelsea screwed up, by not mustering the courage to attack Barcelona even at home, and keep attacking them after taking a 9 minute 1-0 lead. Even against a weekend Barcelona side, Chelsea never looked like a home team, trying to exploit their home advantage. They played with one striker against a second string Barcelona defense, and even substituted him for a defender on 72 minutes. Is this what some people mean by substance over style? Actually its not substance, but cowardness. The team with the substance and the style was Barcelona, who despite being away from home, despite fielding a weakened side, and despite being down a man for the last 25 minutes, attacked and attacked, with gallantry and astonishing self belief, until their reward came. They deserved everything they got…as do Chelsea. Especially a couple of their petulant players, Drogba and Ballack, whose tantrums inventing their spleen at the referee were about as courageous as their team’s tactics.

I am still surprised we didn’t sign another centre back before the window closed but Gallas is showing good form at the moment and with Senderos staying i suppose we should be able to get through
