Dynamo 1-1 Arsenal

Having let it settle a bit, I thought it appropriate to revisit what happened in Kiev yesterday. A definite winneable game was blown thanks to some poor finishing. It isn’t really much more than that. The penalty awarded to Kiev was without doubt a dodgy decision. A first glance at it and it look like Sagna tackled Ognjen Vukojevic in the box. However, replays show that it almost looks like Vukojevic pulls Sagna down on top of him. Impossible to know, and it’s hard to blame the ref. Things balanced out, as Gallas’ goal included a hint of offside perhaps. But the point is, if Adebayor and Cesc convert the two best chances of the first half than there is no debate.
Reality does suck though. Looking at it from a much larger perspective, it’s not a bad result. Sure, Kiev never got a point in last year’s competition, but whenever Arsenal march into Russia/former Soviet Union territory, they always seem to struggle a bit more.
Wenger has already come out to badger the officiating, upset at the amount of injury time and the lack of protection for Theo Walcott:
“The referee should have sent off the left-back three times at least because he destroyed Walcott. . . I wanted to understand how we had only three minutes of injury time, and then only played one minute.”
I was a bit puzzled as well, because the fourth official didn’t show three minutes until halfway through injury time. To be fair, they played out three minutes, but perhaps Wenger couldn’t tell due to the fact he wasn’t watching the game on TV. As for the treatment of Walcott, it’s something that opposing teams will no doubt do in the future as the young Englishman continues to fulfill his potential. Fair play to Theo, as he let his game do the talking by setting up the equalizer.

I echo your views except that the ref. was close enough to see that the Kiev player manhandled Sagna to the ground on top of him, and the call was inexcusable. I would be questioning the ref. if there is a committee that overlooks their performance.
Again as you said the wasted chances by Ade, Faber, and Persie, the ref. wouldn’t have mattered!Posted from
