Everyone’s scared of each other
By: travis | April 1st, 2008Nothing really for me to say that Abby didn’t cover in her lovely recap from the weekend. The only downside to it was the way that Ronaldo and Man U smashed Villa. Love him or hate him, he is one heck of a footballer. His backheel goal was sublime, and that’s before his other-worldly flick on to set up a goal by Rooney.
Unfortunately, Wenger has set low expectations, saying that a goalless draw wouldn’t be a disappointment. I know what you’re saying Arsene, especially after the San Siro result, but come on. With the lackluster league play of late, it’s important to come out firing. Backing down and claiming that isn’t the most inspiring thing to hear from a coach the week of your first of three games against the same opponent. He should come out saying things such as, “we will score 10 goals against them in three games,” or “we plan on dominating the whole time.” Or something like that.
Rafa throws his two cents in, saying that Arsenal will be scared of Torres. He uses the words “worry on,” not scared though. I can agree with that. Torres scares me, mostly because he is the only one who can score on Liverpool. Without him, they’d be out of the CL and in 6th or 7th place in the league. Maybe not, but he’s been a true gem and there is quite a bit of envy.
Just to make things interesting, Kolo Toure has also thrown his hat in the ring, saying that Liverpool will be scared of Arsenal. Now I’m just confused. If both teams are scared of each other, will they play? Come up with a new adjective, Rafa and Kolo. This isn’t last season when the likes of Julio Baptista and Jérémie Aliadière toasted Liverpool in the FA and Carling Cups respectively. Plus all this fear is making me scared of the game. More to come tomorrow, plus potential for a live blog of the first leg (if I wake up at 5:30 AM).

Didn’t have Torres last year, finished 3rd in the league (Arsenal was 4th) and made the Champions League Final. Not too shabby I would say. You can say, “If they didn’t…” all day long, but we do. Just like Man Yoo has Ronaldo, you have Fabregas, and Chelsea has a bunch of whiny monkeys.
