Fulltime: Wigan 0-1 Arsenal

By: Trent | December 13th, 2006

Arsenal have taken a well-deserved three points from Wigan with a 1-0 win at the JJB. Adebayor had been threatening for some time before netting the 88th-minute winner. The goal was made by Cesc.

Back to third in the table for the Gunners.

After reading all the hype and turmoil surrounding Adebayor during the World Cup it is nice to see that he is maturing into a player.

Agreed, Bob, and good opint. The second half against Chelsea over the weekend and today’s match were pretty impressive.

And thanks for reminding me about the adventure that was the Togan World Cup 2006. Didn’t you end up coaching that team at some point?

Until these last two games, Adebayor has been ridiculed as useless by many if not most Gunner fans and dismissed by pundits. But to me he seemed like the only player with some measure of the killer instinct for a goal so lacking recently in the squad. I hoped he would improve as time went on to silence all his critics. I hope his improvement continues. Also, while none of us Gunner fans are enjoying the club’s fortunes this season, it’s certainly interesting to watch Arsenal go up and down so dramatically on the league table every week. The sheer unpredictability of Arsenal’s progress/regress (combined with the battle between Chelski and ManU at the top of the table) certainly makes this Prem season exciting and entertaining. On that same note, the ongoing battle between Barca, Real Madrid and Sevilla in Spain; plus the contest between Inter, Roma and Palermo in a Moggi-less scudetto competition make for quite interesting football in the sport’s top 3 domestic leagues.
