Gunners Back in Training… With a Few Notable Exceptions

By: Homey | July 5th, 2011

This is going to be a pretty short one, but I’ll plan to get a longer blog up sometime tomorrow for us to chew on. Brenton is currently on vacation, and JG is currently packing for a three week trip to Peru. I hear it’s nice this time of year. Anyway, I think JG will have something up around Thursday, after he arrives there. For now, you’re stuck with me again.

Preseason - Japanese boy
Well, our boys are back in training, before heading out on Sunday for a trip to the Far East. You can view the official Arsenal website and see some photos from the training sessions. The first person I looked for, of course, was Cesc. I don’t see him in the pictures, but I’ve read elsewhere that he was there getting some work in. As far as I could tell, I didn’t see Sagna, Denilson, Nasri, Almunia, RvP, or Diaby. So I guess we shouldn’t sound the alarm bells that Nasri was absent, because several others seemed to be as well. The official site says that some of the players have yet to return from international commitments at the start of June. I know that Vermaelen played for Belgium at the start of June, and he was in training. But maybe those who played a little further into the month are still out.

But at least we have some photos that will answer a few of our burning questions, such as what number Miyaichi will wear (93!?!?). It also appears that our big splash signing Carl Jenkinson was given #25.

There isn’t much else in the way of concrete news today. Inter reportedly completed their deal for Ricky Alvarez. And we’re still waiting and waiting for Gervinho news. So I guess things will drag on for another couple of days. Perhaps before the start of the Asian tour, we’ll have things firmed up a bit.

  • I'm back. Inter signed Alvarez? Fuck.

    Welcome back!

Yeah I was annoyed by that also, some reports had mentioned he already had decided to sign for Arsenal but I assume Wenger done his usual of beating around the bush for too long.

  • I should qualify my disappointment with the thought that Alvarez doesn't look super good. He's older than usual for a big money move to Europe, but he looks like he had the potential to be a decent signing, not a great signing.

At least it means I got another prediction right.  I didn't list him on my predicted purchases this summer.  Booyah.  I'm on a roll.

  • We're keeping track. So far, so good, but that's to be expected with a bunch of conservative predictions. (For conservative, also read: safe, wimpy, pansy.)

    I predict we'll sign Kaka.

  • Homey_Mills

OK, so I was fairly conservative.  Still, most people expect Nasri and Cesc to leave, and I said they'll stay.  So we'll see.

  • Yes, we'll see all right. We'll see all the way to the bank. Put that in your pipe and transfer it.

It good to see the Gunners getting into some shape before things kick off. Aw how I have missed football. Tennis doesn't quite cut it and don't get me started on cricket.
Anyway, I have a worrying feeling that the missing Fab and Nasri maybe things to come, and what's next if we lose those two? I can't see other top players like RVP, Walcott and Wilshere sticking around when we are fighting for mid table. Wenger seriously need to get some spending done for replacements that will ease the mind of the fans, not fresh young players but experienced players.
If not I can help but to think the might Gunners may go down the tubes, no big player would be attracted to playing for us and every player we do mould into something good will want to move to a better/winning team.

Gervinho was in London for a medical, looks like he finally signed..And Wenger preparing a 27 mil pound deal for Benzema is definitely exciting.

  • Homey_Mills

By the way, I'm currently writing a massive blog that I'll post in the morning.  I hope it will be enough to hold people over for a while.

  • perryvs

isn't ryo only 18, that would explain his number being 93

  • Homey_Mills

Yes, very true.  Still, it's odd to see the number 93 for any player.

  • Jablesjoong

farking wenger asshole , sign some players already !!!
