Here we go again
By: travis | February 21st, 2009Back to league action today with Sunderland traveling to the Emirates. It’s the Arsenal debut of Andrey Arshavin who has been named in today’s first XI very recently. It’ll be all eyes on him as his presence will (hopefully) help with a creative spark that this team has been lacking. That wasn’t a problem on Monday against Cardiff, but this will be a better test of that. Even if he isn’t the difference today, the midfielder needs to be given some time in order to establish himself both in this league and on this team.
It goes without saying that a win here is crucial. With the Villa-Chelsea game going on now, a win be either one would increase the margin between Arsenal and the top four. Considering that distance is already far enough as it is, let’s hope that it can’t get any further.
Some Robin Van Persie distraction this morning. The Dutch striker has been offered a new contract but is dragging his feet on signing it. This is what worries me:
‘Financially the last offer made by the club is fine but that isn’t everything for me. It’s about my ambitions and how they can be fulfilled in the coming years. The club and I want the same and it is our intention we achieve that.”
You can’t fault a player for wanting to win trophies, and when a club isn’t doing that getting players to stick around can be difficult. Van Persie wants to stay, he just wants to ensure that he’s winning something. Let’s hope that today can be a return to those winnings ways in the league.

Alright we’re all super frustrated and I’m gonna be positive about the future and welcome the chance of
playing in the EUFA rather than the champions league next
year. Arshavin put on a great show today, unfortunately for us the opposing goalies from weaker teams suddenly believe that they’re GiGi Buffon playing at the Emirates rather than their below average performance on any other days. I thought Fulop should’ve been the man of the match. Huge question mark goes to Wenger for not playing Arshavin the full 90. Again we don’t know the whole story miles away do we? But one would think that by now he should have been fit enough to play more than 60. Song had an above average game and I guess Sagna heard me and crossed a lot less into the box. If only Vela, Gallas could have converted those golden chances.
Roma beware this team is just getting started.Posted from
