International Round-up
By: Trent | October 16th, 2007
Not a lot of Arsenal news these days, it being another international week and all. Unless you count even more Lehmann drama, which I am not at the moment.
In Euro 2008 qualifying, Croatia defetaed Israel 1-0 thanks to Arsenal striker Eduardo’s 52nd-minute goal. Israel’s loss is good news for England, by the way, who look to be in the driver’s seat for a qualification spot.
In less happy news, Togo crashed out to Mali 0-2, meaning that Emmanuel Adebayor’s side will not make it to the African Cup of Nations next year. Sux for Sheyi, but it does mean that he will be available all Spring for the Gunners.
Back in Europe, Cesc Fabregas was in action for Spain, who won away at Denmark 3-1. Cesc had a typically Fabregasian match, and Spain drew even with Sweden at the top of their qualifying group. Nicklas Bendtner came on as a second-half sub for the Danes.
Finally, Alex Hleb played great for Belarus, but it was not enough to defeat mighty Luxembourg. The 1-0 scoreline represented Luxembourg’s first competitive win in 15 years. Ouch.
