International Wrap
By: travis | February 12th, 2009It’s been a slow week for Arsenal on the news side of things, hence the lack of posts — apologies nonetheless. There was big news yesterday, and that has to do with Eduardo making a return to competitive play in a friendly with Croatia. Phenomenal news for him, and it’s one step closer to a return to competitive action with Arsenal. You can’t help but be happy for the guy, and if you told him that less than a year after he essentially had his leg broken in half against Birmingham, I’d reckon that he’d be pretty content with that. He played 30 minutes, coming off the bench to set up the game winner for Croatia. Can’t say much more than that.
In response to Eduardo’s return, Wenger remains cautious about playing him against Cardiff. That’s an opinion you must respect, as it’d be foolish to start him in a cup match when his services are probably needed more to help this squad make the Champions League.
The rest of the round up from the internationals is mostly all good news. Aaron Ramsey seems to have picked up a small injury in his knee which is about what you’d expect. Nice to see him featuring for Wales, but it’s not good to see yet another central midfielder pick up another injury. What about Diaby, you might ask? Still injured.
Adebayor made headlines by winning the Confederation of African Football’s Player of the Year award. Good for him, he did have a good season last year, but he needs a way-back machine to rediscover this form. With one goal in the past four league games — something like that — the lack of goals is becoming a real nuisance. Fortunately our defense has played well enough not to concede, thus extending the unbeaten run, but it will count for naught if this team can’t put up some wins.
That’s about all I have to say this week. Like I said, not going on.

I was also happy to see Gallas do well for Les Bleus, although I think that Sagna did not look the same as he does for Arsenal.
