Kits Abroad
By: Trent | September 20th, 2007
As noted below, I was away from the intertubes for several days while on vacation. I was in a well-known resort area in the United States. Which is all to say that, sometimes I forget how many Englishmen wear their club kits while on holiday overseas.
Plenty of Three Lions strips, of course. And ManYoo and Chelsea and Liverpool, both home and away. (Not as many Arsenal shirts, however, for whatever reason.) But also Leeds, Crystal Palace, Wigan and the like. And Brazilian strips too, including Sao Paolo and Flamingo Flamengo, apart from the familiar yellow shirt of the national team.
I’d say proper football kits outnumbered gridiron football jerseys 3 to 1. Sorta odd.
There was even a kit shop on the grounds, and when I espied it, I thought it might be a good opportunity to buy the new Arsenal Euro away kit. Snazzy.
So I traipsed in and saw all sorts of…Liverpool and Chelsea and Newcastle shirts. And that was it. I asked the shop lady what was up. Turns out the store was sponsored by Adidas, and only kits they manufacture made the cut. Just then, a mostly drunk Gooner wandered in and shouted, “Hey, where ‘n th’ hell are the Arsenal shirts? Best club in the world!” and then wandered out again.
Well said.

Is this article a joke?

Well, Rosicky, I guess it depends on whether you’re asking if it’s (a) untrue or (b) a worthless post. I can tell you that it is entirely true, but if you mean “(b)”, that’s for you to decide.

That’s Flamengo — not “Flamingo,” as in those big pink long-necked birds.
Hm, so no Arsenal fans vacationing in the US? Probably some Man United supporter over at customs is keeping them out.

Heh – thanks for catching that typo sandrahn. Although there were some actual flamingos about. I’ll note the correction.
