Lehmann v. Drogba: The Video!

By: Trent | December 11th, 2006

For those of you that missed the great Chelsea v. Arsenal draw from Sunday, please enjoy this video which shows Didier Drogba’s afternoon of hilarious diving, capped by the vicious, brutal throwdown between the Ivorian striker and Arsenal keeper Jens Lehmann.

As Homer Simpson would say, that last bit was sarcasm.

For his part, Drogba maintains he’s no diver.

This is all good and well…..but what I don’t understand is why the English media goes up in a rave when C. Ronaldo falls once in virtually 4 months but Drogba consistently does this and there isn’t much fuss made about it

btw, I enjoyed the sound effects :)

And this is the man everyone was raving about a few weeks ago after he scored that late equaliser against Barca, despite the fact that he’d put in the same sort of ‘performance’ in that game. Real class. Not.

Get a life guys! Most of the football players dive. What about Thierry Henry’s ‘dramatic’ world cup. Two match winning dives - one against Portugal and one against Spain - both resulted in a goal subsequently.

What’s interesting is how the media punditry and blogs are all full of bile against Lehmann far more than against Drogba. The same media and punditry mostly focus on Chelsea and give little credit to Arsenal’s achievement in that match. A young, troubled, inconsistent side came away from Stamford Bridge with a draw, after all.

Frankly, I wasn’t bothered much by the Jens and Didier Show. I thought it was funny. Today’s British press has reports of Lehmann saying how he has no problems with Drogba, that he likes him because Drogba doesn’t insult him. According to Lehmann, Drogba’s teammates insulted him badly throughout the match and especially Frank Lampard.

The only people who really bothered me throughout the match were the fans — Chelski fans chanting their horrible pedophile/rapist chants against Wenger, etc. At one point, the camera focused on one Chelski fan’s face contorted in rage/hate screaming at Lehmann “c-nt! c-nt! c-nt!” Charming people who go to these games. All the attention was on the fans booing Ashley Cole but what they were doing was nothing at all in comparison to the really vile stuff coming out of the stands.

Well put, sandrahn. I, too, laughed at the Jens/Didier silliness. Although, I still thought is reasonable to card each player.

tis a shame cos both players are world class. drogba has scored fantastic goals this season but at the end of the day he is a disgusting diver. its not what the game is about, it just proves that the team cannot break the defence down and need to dive to get a freekick/penalty whatever. and Lehmann is a fantastic goalie, but he always gets himself into somesort of mishap
