Loads of rubbish
By: travis | June 12th, 2008I am tired of these Adebayor rumors. Everyday, another media publication chooses to print hints of our top scorer leaving Arsenal. This time it’s the Telegraph who is responsible for this piece. A strong part of me wants to ignore this, and I probably should. But the notion of losing a player who was probably our tops of the season is a big deal. However, this rumor has already been refuted, because a month or so ago, he insisted he was happy here and staying. What exactly has happened that forced a change of heart? Was it the summer starting in London? Perhaps too much time spent around Hleb made him feel uncomfortable with the ‘noise’ of the city.
Aside from that, actually reading the article makes you question the validity of it. The headline itself says:
Emmanuel Adebayor ‘to ask for Arsenal move’
Easier enough to understand. An actual read of the article indicates that nowhere does it have a verified source that Ade wants out, or that he is going to ask Arsenal for a move. It says that they face a battle to keep them, quotes some AC Milan bloke, and how Wenger has already refuted a move:
Arsene Wenger is adamant that the striker will not be sold. “They just have to call me and they will get the answer they deserve,” the Arsenal manager said.
Last time I checked, a team has to agree to terms with another team in order for a transfer to take place. Considering Arsenal ignored Milan’s requested, this whole thing is utter bollocks. Not to mention the fact Adebayor himself has said he wants to stay. The link up there says it. All this is agent talk, trying to get the club to panic, and driving up the price of the contract that Ade is renegotiating with the club. By leaking it out to the press, the agent succeeds in getting more cash for his player and for himself by casting doubt over the player’s future. What a (insert a nasty word here). Ruining the game. I’ve already written more words than this story deserves, but wanted to rant anyways.
