Match Day: Reading v. Arsenal
By: Trent | October 22nd, 2006Arsenal are at the Madejski Stadium today to face Prem newcomers Reading. This will be the first league match between the two clubs (albeit they have met 5 times in cup competitions, with Arsenal victorious each time). Currently, Arsenal sit just one point above Reading in the table, although the Gunners do have a game in hand.
Reading played Chelsea tough last weekend, losing on an owngoal that involved–of course–Frank Lampard. Midfielder and former Arsenal man James Harper says Reading’s team spirit can aid them in today’s match. He’s also hinting that Arsenal lack such esprit de corps.
Ecuador and former Aston Villa defender Ulises de la Cruz says he’s looking forward to playing Arsenal: “I always play well against Arsenal.” Unfortch, his team has also never beaten Arsenal, so history may not be the best crutch here.
And although Marcus Hahnemann says Arsenal can expect the same physical approach his side showed Chelsea last week, stiker Kevin Doyle says no bullying tactics will be employed.
Reading have been this year’s Wigan, as everyone has noted, and they are a tough out at home. But except for the blip in Moscow, Arsenal have been completely in form. Let’s say…Reading 0 – 1 Arsenal.
What are your predictions?
