Mid-Week Roundup

By: Darren_v | July 27th, 2011

July is nearing an end, and there is plenty of evidence that the upcoming season is drawing near as actual news is starting to pick up and Arsenal.com is churning out more articles daily. I think we are all thankful for some real news instead of transfer sagas that never end, so let’s get to it.

Yesterday Arsenal officially confirmed the departure of youth product Jay Emmanuel-Thomas (aka JET) to Ipswich Town for a reported fee of 1.1 million and a 20% sell on fee if they manage to sell him in the future. JET has always been one of the more interesting youth players for me as he played virtually every position on the pitch for Arsenal as all the coaches seemed unsure of where he should play. JET looked different than most Arsenal players as he is a physically imposing man at 6’3” and bags of power and pace. He captained the FA Youth Cup-winning run in 2009, putting in a number of decisive moments to aid in winning the trophy. And yet…. There were always the comments from the coaches and Wenger himself that his skill and talent were never in question, but his heart and commitment were serious questions marks. Coming of age where Wenger had to decide on adding him to the 25-man roster or not finally sealed his fate for him and while it is disappointing to see him leave, it is just evidence that talent alone doesn’t cut it.*

* – This is incorrect as JET is still 20 years old, and therefore did not have to be named on the 25-man squad to be eligible to play.

On the tail winds of JET’s move was a twitter comment from Henri Lansbury suggesting a possible move was in store for him. The tweet has since been deleting and Twitter was running riot yesterday about Lansbury not getting the chance he deserved for Arsenal, especially considering the chances players like Denilson and Diaby were given. To me this all has to do with timing of when these players have attempted to break into the first team however. At the time of Denilson’s first appearances Emirates Stadium was in the midst of being built and the start and acceptance of the youth system was in place. Arsenal’s trophy years had just occurred and Denilson showed a lot of promise to begin with. Fans were curious and patient to see these players grow, as Fabregas was seemingly evidence to great things coming. Fast forward six years and Gooners everywhere are tense, angry and uptight, fearful of the future and the pressure to win trophies has never been higher in North London. The patience for Wenger to produce success is almost completely gone, and players like JET and Lansbury leaving earlier are evidence of this.

It is very interesting to gauge the outrage for Henri Lansbury and the seemingly disinterest for one Kyle Bartley’s and their potential departures. They are both English and have displayed willingness to fight and ‘put a shift in’ when they do play, something everyone acknowledges that is lacking at Arsenal. Bartley had a very successful loan spell up in Scotland for Rangers, playing a vital role for them during the second half of the season. Lansbury, while a decent loan spell, spent half of the season as a super-sub, and rarely starting for Norwich. In order for Lansbury to become a first team player in the Red and White, he must beat out established first teamer in no particular order of Fabregas, Wilshere, Ramsey, Nasri, Arshavin, Walcott, Vela, Diaby, Gervinho, and Rosicky, depending on where you slot Lansbury onto the pitch. Bartley’s competition for the 4/5th Central defender role only consists of Sebastian Squillaci and Iqnasi Miquel. Now make no mistake, Lansbury has long been my favorite youth team player but the fact is he must leapfrog a minimum of four players whereas Bartley only needs to leapfrog two. And yet Lansbury’s lack of chances in the first team is where Gooner’s ire lies. Something doesn’t add up to me. There seems to be a general expectation of every single player from Arsenal’s youth system, which they must become big name and if they do not, it is a massive failure or a mistake by Arsenal. Tom Cruise was a big name for the left-back position just a year or two ago, and was released outright this summer despite having played a Champions League game versus Olympiakos. But the harsh reality is, very few come to the top of World football, and we as fans must temper our expectations, especially in this age of social media and mass hype.

On the injury front which is a staple for all Arsenal News is that Conor Henderson will be out a minimum of six months after damaging his cruciate ligaments when he twisted his knee in the 2-1 win over Cologne. This is a massive setback for a player Wenger well liked, and hopefully he can come back next year and push on, as injuries have the unfortunate consequence of destroying many careers. It has also been revealed that Theo Walcott has left Germany for a scan on a re-occurring ankle injury from last season that he cannot seem to shake. This has to be a major worry in my opinion as it sounds like Walcott has been dealing with this for quite some time and is no stranger to injuries.

Tomas Rosicky thinks that althought the Carling Cup final was a setback, it is not what went wrong at the end of the season. According to Rosicky it was our home form down the stretch, and that Arsenal will learn from it. Because we have never heard that before of course.

Andrei Arshavin is targeting 15 goals this season, and says

“I think we will get stronger and stronger,” he told the Official Souvenir Programme.”In particular I think our work on set-pieces, both attacking and defending, will be better. We’ll also play a pressing game – if we do that well, I’m sure you’ll see an improved team.”

Yes please.

Arsenal.com has helpfully posted the relevant matches currently ongoing in the Champions League in regards to who Arsenal could face. They are:

Standard Liege (Belgium) v FC Zürich (Switzerland)
Benfica (Portugal) v Trabzonspor (Turkey)
Dynamo Kyiv (Ukraine) 0-2 Rubin Kazan (Russia)
Twente (Holland) 2-0 FC Vaslui (Romania)
Odense (Denmark) v Panathinaikos (Greece)

Most of these teams look like they could potentially cause Arsenal a few problems, especially considering the uncertainity around our Captain and the suspensions of Robin Van Persie, Samir Nasri and Arsene Wenger for the qualifiers.

And finally, everyone’s favorite player, Denilson, made his Sao Paulo debut on Saturday. He played 67 minutes with the score 2-1 when he came off and completed 75 passes out of 75. And no, not all were sideways or backwards. The game ended in a 2-2 draw.

So I'm wondering, how exactly would the transfer process come about if the player involved was injured? 'cause from what I understand, the player normally would have to pass a medical for the transfer to go through. I'm just thinking aloud here while following the Cesc saga, seeing that our captain is still having an injury that conveniently prevent him from playing for us.

  • If Diaby were a horse we would have shot him. Having him available at the end of August is exactly like not having him available, because he will likely suck for a while then get re-injured.

The question that is evident in my mind… is… Are we actually
resolving the problems from last season? Or are we just trying to
“survive” another summer, improve a little, try not to sell players… Now
I know we have not yet completed our summer spending on transfers
(well, let’s hope not), so perhaps there is more to come…

But it’s time to review what problems we had last season, and how we
are going about or have gone about fixing them in the summer so far. The
key issues we faced, which ultimately let us down are noted below.

Goalkeeping IssuesDefensive ProblemsIndividual MistakesReliance On One StrikerStrength In DepthExperienceNo Variation In PlayNo Flexibility In Formation

Let’s rattle through the list and see what we’ve done…

    Goalkeeping Issues

Nothing has changed in the goalkeeping department over summer, and
there is little or no noise about the position. I think many people see
Szcznesy as our number one now and now that he’s had a few games under
his belt, the experience factor may improve him next season. A lot of
people, including myself thought Almunia would have left by now – but as
of yet, there haven’t been any takers. As things stand, we’re going
into 2011/2012 with Fabianski as number 2, Mannone as number 3 and
Almunia as number 4… Good enough? No, I don’t think so. Szcznesy is a
good player, but he is still young and inexperienced – would I like to
see a new face in the squad – I would have loved to have brought
in Maarten Stekelenburg, who is on the verge of a £6m move to Roma. Will
    it happen, no, definitely not.

    Have we improved? No.

    Defensive Problems

The defensive problems have been very evident for all to see –
Arsenal fan or not. At the beginning of the transfer window, Arsene said
we’d recruit experienced and tall defenders – possibly two. As things
stand, we have yet to recruit one – despite failed bids for Phil Jones,
Phil Jagielka, Gary Cahill and Chris Samba. Will we buy? I hope we do.
Out of our 4 centre backs, only Vermaelen is reasonably good – Squillaci
is very bad and Djourou and Koscielny wouldn’t be first choice at any
    other club.

    Have we improved? No.

    Individual Mistakes

There are 6 players who consistently make individual mistakes down at
the ‘Grove. Clichy, Eboue, Walcott, Djourou, Koscielny and Almunia.
Almunia, Clichy and Koscielny’s mistakes costs us over 15 points and the
Carling Cup. Szcznesy cost us a few too – especially Sp*rs away. So how
have we improved it? Well, for starters, we have sold Clichy, but will
Gibbs be mistake free or will he suffer a learning curve which means he
ends up making the same mistakes. Almunia has been relegated to #4 in
the pecking order – or perhaps he will leave – has Szcznesy still got a
few errors in him. Djourou, Koscielny and Walcott all have another year
on them, so perhaps that will help and of course, the return of
Vermaelen will mean the two defenders will play less. Eboue may also be
on the way out – Jenkinson has already made a massive mistake in the
crazy own goal he scored the other day, and how many more does he have
    in his locker?

Have we improved? Unsure. Probably not by much!

    Reliance On One Striker

With Van Persie being our obvious first choice and Arsene not having
much faith in the likes of Bendtner & Chamakh, there was a high
level of reliance on one striker last season. This meant our play was
predictable and it also meant that VP lost a little cutting edge. With
the arrival of Gervinho, who has looked pretty lively so far in
pre-season, it’s clear that we have another option. Although Bendtner is
most likely moving on, Carlos Vela’s return may mean that we’ve got
four striker to rotate including Chamakh – who, with another season
under his belt, should be a little better…

    Have we improved? Yes!

    Strength In Depth

We’ve seen Clichy and Denilson leave – we’re about to see Bendtner
and Eboue leave – we’ve brought in Jenkinson and Gervinho and have the
returning Ramsey and Traore. Have been increased our strength in depth.
No way, hose! We’ve done the opposite. We are now weaker. Ouch.

    Have we improved? Hell No!

    Experience

Arsene Wenger announced at the beginning of the season that the lack
of experience had let us down. Considering the team has more Premier
League appearances than most other sides, I don’t think experience let
us down, I think it was more down to mental fragility. But, AW said he
was going to buy experience and frankly, that’s not happened. Clichy was
the most experienced, he’s now gone. Jenkinson is very inexperience –
in fact, he’s never played a Premier League game – neither has Gervinho…

    Have we improved? Hell No!

No Variation In Play & No Flexibility In Formation

I’ve combined the last two points into one. Last season, we saw the
likes of Bendtner and Chamakh deployed on the wings. We also saw a
4-1-4-1 formation deployed permanently – if we were winning, losing or
drawing – the formation never changed. In pre-season, there has been no
sign of any change in formation – but perhaps the personnel are better
suited to the position – players like Gervinho and Miyachi may fair
better on the wings than Chamakh and Bendtner…

    Have we improved? Maybe.

We have a month left in the transfer window and we all know it only
takes a few days to get a transfer sorted. Fingers crossed we get the
height, experience and strength in depth we all want. If we don’t, they
as much as I love the Arsenal, I can tell you right now, it’s going to
be a very tough season for us.

I’ve off to Luxembourg to see Lady WOA, but JAT and Debs will be
looking after you in the meantime…

Here’s to an exciting Emirates Cup weekend, let’s see what we’re made
of and start the season with a trophy! (Well, kind of!)…

  • Ashley Munetsi

I would have to disagree in regards to our goalkeeping issues, Szcznesy has not been error-prone at all. He has made some slight errors but no keeper is infallible and given the time he got to play last season and the magnitude of some of the games he displayed a strength of character indicative of a great goalkeeper, so I do not think that is an area of worry.

I would also say that Djourou has been very good for us last season he really stepped up his game and the difference of when he was on the field was extremly clear. He kept his errors to a minimum and was a bedrock during our great run from december to feb. I agree with the fact that Jenkinson is not a reliable option as a back up right-back and that Gibbs is a really suspect replacement for Clichy we can only hope Wenger addresses this situation and I stress the word hope.

Another note we play with a 4-2-3-1 formation what we played with all season and I do not see our formation as so much of a problem it has served us very well and is perfectly suited to arsenals style of play. There is a reason why we had the highest possesion rate in the prem. However, what we lacked is a cutting edge as sometimes actually omany times we would just try to look for the perfect intricate goal instead of going for the jugular. Then the area everyone can agree on was our defensive fallibility our defending on set pieces was atrocious.

For now I am just reserving judgement, I love the club and just hope for the best and will be ready no matter what happens to support us next season. We really do have what it takes to win it next year, lets just see if Wenger is willing to give us that much needed edge.

    On an unrelated note...

Are there any other subscribers to Arsenal TV Online--now Arsenal Player--very disappointed?  Not to get started on the barely-navigable format, they have critically deleted all full matches from last season and all video whatsoever, now and apparently in the future, for youth, reserve, and even the ladies' teams.  It was bad enough when they turned the Fans' Forum--which was always great programming--into the fluffy Arsenal 360 waste of time.  Arsenal Player feels like another downgrade in precisely those areas I valued the most.  Pissed!

    That is all.

  • amen

You are not alone. I was very disappointed and surprised with both their old system and their new one.  In general, very shoddy work. I was a subscriber until about a week before they completed the switch to arsenal Player.

Take the new arsenal player, I can't even watch the free videos on one of my pc's. I have to find another laptop just for that. It just hangs, and there are no visible help buttons anywhere, so I don't know where to start. It is windows media player-based and from extensive experience when that thing doesn't work right it is hard to pinpoint what has gone wrong since it and its components are entangled with various other parts of Windows.  (and this is coming from someone who doesn't think windows is as bad as people make it out to be)

Similar problems with the old system, help is impossible to navigate, and some BASIC account management functionality is missing. I'm willing to bet there are some cheap and nonlegit porn sites with higher standards for ease of use, stability, and support.

  • Homey_Mills

I'm not sure what the plans are for the blog in the next few days, but I'm much busier than usual, and won't be able to handle anything until tomorrow night at the earliest.  I think Brenton may be back to write something for the weekend.  So we're stuck with the comment section for the moment.

  • I will whip up a quick match preview and report tomorrow.

  • Homey_Mills

I'll try to get a transfer news roundup tonight sometime.  But I've already been up since 4:45am and have driven 6 hours today so far.  And there's more to do.  I hope my brain is still working if and when I can sit at the computer this evening.

  • FredJacob

So late you getting up Homie lol

  • FredJacob
  • From that link (which FJ can mysteriously post):

Arsene Wenger is on the brink of breaking Arsenal’s transfer record to sign Juan Mata - and has got tough over Cesc Fabregas.Wenger last night agreed a £17million deal with Valencia for Mata - and has also made an increased £13m bid for Everton defender Phil Jagielka.

  • I am hoping with every inch of my body that this speculation comes to fruition.

  • AlexM

Our boy Jack is looking good on the cover of FIFA 12. Too bad they had to pair him next to fucking Wayne Rooney though.

  • And the FIFA cover is the kiss of death lately.

  • Apparently the last time an Arsenal player was on the cover, Arsenal won a trophy.

  • Vela, 11

  • I was refering to the UK verison. Should've clarified

  • AlexM

Umm, Theo was on the FIFA 10 cover, so no luck there. And we all know how that year turned out for him.

  • Ah, the unreliablity of twitter.

I'll go crawl back into my hole now.

  • Wait, are you serious, Vela was on the cover in '11? How did he manage that?

  • AlexM

Vela was on the North American version cover alongside the US's Donovan, so he was basically representing Mexico. And that was before anyone knew who the Little Pea was.

  • Gigi_man

I love Arshavin. Pure, simple. It's a feeling, so it might not be rational, but then again, the love for the Arsenal after six years hasnt been rational either, so what the heck... hehehe.

Regarding Lansbury, I d say put him a little bit far ahead and the fight becomes less crowded and more "winnable"...Vela doesn have like a "immovable siège" at the 1st team right?

Hope we dont make the mistake of misusing him.

  • Never leave an Arshavin behind.

Gigi -- Have a look at my attached image. :)

  • Sophie

I think Vela has more potential than the chance he's been given. He barely played at all with the first team, and as I recall he scored twice in a rather spectacular substitute appearance in the Champion's League. Perhaps he's not to be disregarded...

Also, essentially irrelevant, but in Football Manager I've found Vela quite effective when played as a left attacking midfielder, where he can function as a playmaker a little bit more. And if none of my other options are available, he's pretty decent as a second striker.

  • Felegy

Mata rumors are heating up.  Mixed thoughts on him though out there; some say him coming here is the sure sign that Cesc is halfway out the door while others say that he is best suited to play out on the wing meaning Nasri is on his way out.....

  • Vazquez [Valencia sporting director] told Superdeporte: "I hope that he [Mata] will stay with Valencia and I think he'll do just that. We have not received any offers for him so far.

  • Heman

All i can say is God Help us

  • Apparently everyone's favourite player has said he expects to be back in an Arsenal shirt next season. I'll look for a link (though I can't post them).

“I miss London, I miss Arsenal,” said Denilson. “I lived there for five years, it’s a long time for me. But I think next season I’ll be back.”

    (From a SkySports interview)

  • Quick, bring out the Pom Poms

  • FredJacob

Is this the same interview i have posted below after Hommies Good to read that RVP thread, if it is you can probably use it

  • I would be very surprised to see him back at Arsenal.

  • I think we all would, but knowing Arsene, it will be hailed like a new signing.

  • BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

    what are yours

  • Cesc? Until the transfer window closes and every transfer is settled, I think there are still quite a lot of players to come and go. Which is why I'm going to keep my mouth shut about lineups until the 31st of August.

  • Homey_Mills

Good to read that RvP will participate in the Holland friendly against England 3 days before the start of the season.  That's such an important game to squeeze in at that time of the year.  It would be great if they play him the full 90 minutes too.  :-\

  • Gigi_man

Well, even more for my comment, Vela, Gervinho, RvP, if RvP starts out injured, we only got Gervinho.
    OOoooopppss sorry, Gervinho and Vela.
Dont know why I forgot to write the name Vela, kust dont know... :P

  • FredJacob

    Chamahk also

  • Gigi_man

Oooops, this one I didnt mean as a joke, I tryly forgot about him. Even though he is higher in my book because only has one season, than Vela. The mere fact of his "absence" in the score sheets in the 2nd half of the season should be less fight for Lansbury right?

  • Rico

aww no! Why would he want to do that? Stay in training RVP, forget the international friendly, there is more at stake this year than before.
History is known to repeat itself. damn it!

  • JG

Ooo! I know! Maybe John Terry will be SUCH a good sport and break his ankle, just for laughs! Or maybe Wayne Rooney, Ashley Cole, Frank Lampard, Stevie G, or J-Defoe will do it instead! Would´that be swell?

    Seriously, fuck the FA´s.

  • Ian

hey look on the bright side. now de jong has the chance to do the exact same to all of the mentioned english players

  • Forget about John Terry, Ashley Cole, Lampard and all the other cunts. They will all pick up "minor knocks" that will rule them out just for that game. I mean, we can't actually risk a superstar like Rooney lest he gets the injury aggravated now can we?

    Right back at ya' buddy.

  • None of those other guys will be playing because more than likely they will be "injured" only to be miraculously better for the weekend.

  • FredJacob
  • Mistake in the post. JET is still just 20 years old, and so he was not required to be placed on the 25 man roster in order to play.

  • While many of those clubs have the potential to upset us, I'm not really afraid of any other than Rubin Kazan.

Standard Liege (Belgium) v FC Zürich (Switzerland): Meh
Benfica (Portugal) v Trabzonspor (Turkey): Benfica aren't nearly as good as they were a couple of seasons ago. Trabzonspor are decent but very, very beatable.
Dynamo Kyiv (Ukraine) 0-2 Rubin Kazan (Russia)
Twente (Holland) 2-0 FC Vaslui (Romania): Twente aren't as good as they were two seasons ago.
Odense (Denmark) v Panathinaikos (Greece): Pana are no longer much of a threat.

  • I'm a huge fan of our youth system and I love it when someone comes through and makes it in the first team. What people don't seem to understand is that for the most part, a youth system is set up to provide a steady income for the club. Yes, every now and then we'll produce some real stars that will play for the first team, but developing quality talent that can be sold to other clubs can be a major money maker for us. Just look at Barca. Every year they sell off a handful of promising youngsters that just don't have what it takes to make it into the first team, yet can make them a hefty transfer fee. It's a shame that Lansbury might not be given a chance, but if he doesn't have what it takes to consistently play better than all the players ahead of him, there's no point in stifling his development. I would argue that if we promote one player a year from our youth system to our first team, then it is a success. This year that player would seem to be Frimpong (in a position that we need backup in).

  • Xwdwl

Agreed. Barca fans also react like this whenever a talented youth (or Bojan) is sold, so it's not only gooners. We fans shouldn't get too attached to the younguns, I think. Or any one player, really.

  • From the ESPN transfer blog:

16.35 BST Juan Mata latest. According to Spanish newspaper Marca, the Valencia midfielder is "a step away" from completing a move to Arsenal. They say the buy-out clause in his contract is set at €20 million, but it might be possible for the Gunners to get him for €15m.

  • Gigi_man

From your comment to God's ears. Homey is there any prayer to save us and make this happen (I m not kidding I am a full believer/ church goer myself!)

  • Rico

I don't know too much about the player Mata, I gather he is meant to be quite good. Anyone know of a good video clip of him in game?
I have stop looking into transfers rumours in so much detail when the Ricky Alvarez deal fell through.

  • JG

     Yay!
Also, I forgot we won´t have RVP and Nasri at all for the CL qualifyers. Ow ow ow. But I think with Gervinho, and (hopefuly) Mata, we should be fine (as long as it is not Rubin Kazan).

  • For the two legs? Not just the first game?

  • RVP is suspended the first game, Nasri is suspended for both

  • Thanks. I appreciate your work on this. I'm not a horde of adoring ladies, unfortunately.

  • Gutted. Absolutely gutted.

  • Homey_Mills

Are you back in the good ol' USA again?

  • Homey_Mills

Also, of course we should take those "one step away" stories with a grain of salt.  Eboue was supposed to have a deal finalized, and now I'm reading nothing about it today.

  • Oh, I fully doubt this story, but it's nice to read a positive transfer story. And I expect Eboue to go.

  • Homey_Mills

I saw that too, and it doesn't make a ton of sense to me, unless we sell Nasri.  Then it makes perfect sense.  But if we sign Mata and keep Nasri, then we'll have 5 quality options at our forward/wing position.  But we'll still have terrible depth at RB, LB, and DM.

  • formos

Actualy Fabregas sulking made up my mind, let him go (for good $$$ of
cource), and with Mata comming here we are well sorted. Arsenal can
adapt their style to play without real creator like Fabs to play in 442.
Wilshere and Song could do prety well in CM positions with wings
covered either with Mata, Arshavin, Theo, Gervinho and Nasri if he
stays. RVP would come litle deeper and perform in role of Berkamp, with
either Gervinho or Walcot playing upfront or on right wing.

I would actualy go to say that with Mata and Gervinho Arsenal are better than with Fabregas.

    Emmanuel Frimpong could step
up as a sub for Song and claim that DM position, you Homey, are so
woried about(we also have super injury prone Diaby). Wilshere could
compete for starting spot with Ramsey this year.

And though I am a bit concerned for DM position, I think Arsene is happy
with such setup. Though someone like M'Vila would add much needed
    depth.

  • FredJacob

i am currently watching Arsenal 2010-2011 season Review on Arsenal2011Season Youtube channel and seeing Cesc play i really wish he would stay imagine this guy was on a hatrick and decide the give the ball to Vela so he can get a goal, or even Bendtner who score around 7 goals this year and half of them were game winners

i actually even want Clichy to come back because despite all the crap defending he did he is the on who gave the assist for RVP to that magical goal against Barca. All these great players leaving and never one a trophy at Arsenal is one off the reason i wish they could all stay so they can do just that

  • Marloneious

Can i get a link to that video? I dont feel like sorting through hundreds of youtube videos.

  • FredJacob

currently on work so i can't give you the exact link but you can use the below to go to the channel itself and from there  you can navigate and go to the Season Review, it's normally in the side bar

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...

  • Marloneious

The FA took the video down >.<

  • FredJacob
  • FredJacob

guess i was lucky i got to watch it before it was removed

  • Why do you want players who don't want to play for Arsenal come back? Who cares if they didn't win a trophy with us, they are a large reason why we haven't won a trophy...

don't really want them to come back, it just when watching the review you tend to see all the good things players and it has made me a bit more appreciative of our team members

  • Nostalgia is nice when you're thinking back on players who actually gave a damn.

5 options - unless Walcott's ankle is a real issue.  And I have little faith that it isn't.

My biggest fear, though, is Cesc leaving without an adequate replacement coming in.  I don't have faith that Nasri can fill that role or that Ramsey is ready for it.  And its probably unfair to expect Wilshire to step up even more into that role this year - in fact, I think we should consider ourselves lucky if he doesn't avoid some form of a sophmore slump, given how good he was last year.

Now don't get me wrong, they're still a strong squad, I just expect a catfight to finish in the top 4, and feel like our trophy chances are probably more realistic in the cups.
