New Arsenal Kit

By: Trent | March 21st, 2007

The new Arsenal shirts are coming. Well, maybe they can’t score goals to save their lives, but Arsenal may at least change their look for future away matches. Sartorial overlord Nike may have the Gunners playing in all new white strips next season when they are away from Ashburton Grove.

Some fans were upset that white unis could mean looking like Tottenham Hotspur, but at least these shirts aren’t all white. Still, it’s hard to say they’re great. I guess it was just time to (again) separate the supporter from his or her money.

hey dont say that we are being like the scum tottenham Arsenal will always have better kit then them. And we will always beat them. i think its a real good top (but cant read the writing on it). and if could only wear colours that our rivels didnt have we wouldnt have much choice on it.

  • alexandros

i dont like the new shirt at all, our club arsenal is a club of history and tradition. so why change our traditions by having a white kit instead of the traditional blue n yellow. we have made those colours ours. so why change it? its like we r startin a new era. never fix summit when it aint broken!

  • christie

its quit nice..... but doesn't it luk a bit lyk the middlesborough away kit?!

  • MR. GOONER

These so called hardcore Arsenal fans who talk about traditional yellow or blue are morons. The new away kit is in honour/memory of the late, great innovater that was Herbert Chapman. And what was the colour of our away kit in the 30's when he was manager? WHITE!!! This is the reason that the new away kit is white

  • kilkennygooner

This is a bad idea. I feel we should keep with yellow or blue for the away kits. Although the idea of bringing back the green would be interesting. I also have a feeling that this is a ploy by nike to keep the actual design secret to prevent it being copied. I cant remember how many versions of the new home shirt i saw before it was released. My money is on a two tone blue kit for next season.

  • I personally would like to see a modern day kit resembling the yellow and blue of the 1970s double winning kit.

  • brendan

i dnt like it coz its too like the tottenham, i think we shud have a blue shirt again coz that looked gd.
arsenal rule we just been unlucky this season with playes been out and not scoring goals when we shud have.

According to arsenal.com the new away kit will celebrate the pioneering spirit of Herbert Chapman. Which I see as a bit of a conflict, it was originally Chapmans idea to have the yellow and blue away strip (the bright yellow was supposed to put opponents off), and it doesn't seem very pioneering to just flip the colours.
Having said that I do quite like it (although I have seen quite a few different versions of it), and i'm bound to buy it. And although I don't like the idea of having a kit the same colour as spurs i'm glad that Arsenal aren't ripping the fans off like spurs are and having an extra kit for just one match. As for ripping the fans off with loads of kits Arsenal cant really be accused of that, most of the time they change each kit every other year, many teams change both kits every year, and we don't have a constant stream of third kits that are hardly ever worn.

  • smerk illmindz

  • RICK

YER THATS RIGHT MATTY IF ARSENALS KIT ARE WHITE YELLOW PINK BLACK PURPLE WE WILL WEAR IT COZ WE ARE THE ARSENAL!!! (GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONERS)AND ITS A NICE KIT ENEY WAY RED AND WHITE ON BOTH KITS ITS ARSENAL THROUGH AND THROUGH

  • Matty

im with brandon here. americans r passionate about sport. not beating the fck out of the opposition. Brits get a bad name and its definatly only a minority.
as a gooner i like the idea of revesring the home strip. ive always been a bit partial t white football kits. and i think this works well. the tottenham comparison is a load of turd cz they dont have any red on it. the red stands out. the red makes us arsenal. not burgundy, which worked well to see off highbury. i have most shirts from 1999 onwards. and i love all of them. i dnt care if its a scam to make money. im here to support my football club. if they wear these kits, so will i.

  • brandon barfuss

arsenal need white or blue and by the way why do english people critisize americans there so much more classier than dirty scumbag english hooligans.

  • Tom

Very poor move by Arsenal having the same kit as the scum down the road!!!

  • Gooner4Life

Seriously? Are you people really suggesting that a white kit would be a good idea? Chris, you are obviously not a gooner at all as we are a club that loves its traditions and revels in them. That is why we should be so upset about this as it is NOT being done for a good look, nor a united color code at the Emirates. It is being done so that Arsenal PLC and Nike can make more money. In a few years Arsenal will be playing in front of a stadium full of business men, with American accents, eating £10 per pint beers. Its already happening, the stadium is always half empty with 10 mins to go, what "fan" would leave before the game has finished and not stay to applaud out team? This club and its so called fans need a kick up the arse and a slap in the face. WAKE UP PEOPLE or we are going to lose our club totally.

  • dominic

y wud we wear all red thats the scousers colour weve bin red an white since da 1930s.the new kits crap y wud we want white tats wat they wear at the lane the horrible scumbags if you were from london ud understand tat ur all talkin shit.

  • Jon

The white kit will look great, imagine Emirates Stadium full of red an white! no odd yellow patches :)

  • Kailesh

why red and white, keep the yellow and blackk those colours work so well, white and red, i wont buy thatt, im just gonna get the yellow and blackk, since its on sale:P hehe

  • chris

i think the away kit iz well smart n if they do use it nxt season ill b 1 of the 1st 2 buy it (coz im gooner fan) but normally arsenal away kits go yellow 4 1 season then blue 4 the next thats the tradition

  • tom

green!? yea i remember that...oh..we could camouflage and creep around the pitch and all you'd see is a ball and the home team...great.. .as for the white..'uh hum'..i think it looks cool and if you check it is actually traditonal away kit for arsenal..i like the idea of the redcurrant, redcurrant shorts and redcurrant and white hooped socks...nothing like spurs..and they are such a small team anyway..nobody s gonna draw a comparison...!!???

  • Josh Platt

I think they should go back to the maroon/burgandy color.

  • Bryan

Personally my vote would be for a green away kit as in the mid/late 80's. And I also agree there should be a 3rd kit...just my thoughts from America.

  • well i really like the away kit!! it is similar 2 the home one but what can we do all the arsenal fans just want to look at the red & white colours going up and down in every stadium that they go !!! people will like it

  • sabina

why do american and other than english people know about arsenal and how theyre kit should be... i quite like the idea... its different

  • James Read

Real Madrid haven't actually kept the same colours for decades. Only within the last decade they changed to their 'all white' home strip (since they changed their shirt make from Kelme to Adidas). They previously opted for white and purple kits. And for their away it was simply reversed. The Arsenal kit situation is no way near at bad as Real Madrid. I have followed Arsenal since I was about 5 and Real since I was about 9 (I am now 20). Real Madrid without fail change both their home and away shirts each season. This season they have 4 shirts - White, Black, Purple, Bright Yellow.

As for the new Arsenal Away shirt- I am not sure. We should stick to blue or yellow again. Apart from the arguement that the proposed white kit is too similar to Spuds-It would still clash with teams wearing red and white such as like Sheffield United. So will they also release a third shirt????

  • Tom

Eddie, the kit cant just be all red, thats our home kit, the idea is to have a contrsting kit so when we play other teams away who have a similar kit or one that could be confused with our own we have a change option, i dont really like the red but i like new kits , i want old skool blue lightnng back

  • hmmm ... was just wondering if you football lovers wanted to join my football forum???? just click on my name to check it out :)

  • Many teams with the same traditional colours like Real Madrid will still release a new version of their kit every few years just to bleed the fans a little more. It turns kits into sort of a collector's item.

As for this new Arsenal away one, I'm not a fan of the white, but even more than that, the new kit is just a lazy effort from Nike, simply flipping the colours of the home shirt. How long did it take ’em to come up with that gem of an idea?

  • Eddie

They should be all red. No need to change a good look.

  • sandrahn

I wish I could understand the reasoning behind these constant kit changes in football. Some clubs just keep their same colors basic and constant for decades (Real Madrid) while others have some sort of fashion bug to kill. The new kits aren't too bad but yeah, Arsenal players shouldn't be wearing white.
