On the Weekend
By: travis | October 24th, 2008
Yesterday, the big news came from the AGM and it was mostly good news. Arsene chatted up with fans, shareholders, and journos who came out for the spectacle. Of note, Stan Kroenke was out for a little meet and greet, although no sign of Alishar Usmanov, which is probably a good thing.
The squad is healing quickly ahead of this weekend and Gallas, Toure, and even Sagna for next week against Spurs. Good boost to the defense. Alex Song isn’t really the versatile, play anywhere in midfield or defense kind of a player. Yet.
There’s a big game ahead this weekend, away at West Ham, and it’ll be a crucial test ahead of a mid-week clash with Spurs. A win on Sunday would help bring a better sort of consistency to the table, and there will hopefully be no signs of the poor performance we saw against Hull/Sunderland. This team cannot drop points ever again. Maybe not ever again, but not much at all to have any shot at the title. Chelsea is scary good, and if we had the same amount of players out as they did, we’d be starting half our reserve team. Needless to say, it can be done, and there is some good news to cheer about in relation to our Crozillian.
A few notes to recap the AGM/rest of the week:
+Best news of the week? Eduardo set to return to training mid-November. What a boost he could be – if he’s mentally and physically fit – both huge IFS. His presence will boost the forwards and give a huge lift to the squad. Rosicky isn’t expected back until after December. If ever.
+Here are three reasons to be thankful if your a Gooner.
+Berkamp wants to come back to England to coach. Maybe at Arsenal. His well-documented fear of flying aside, that would be awesome.
+Arsene calls out to the fans to get behind the youth movement. They want to see wins and trophies, then they’ll cheer, right?
+Former Gunner Pires speaks on Ade’s love for Arsenal. So much so, that he was never going to leave last season. Yeah. Ok.
+Someone might be signed in January. Hopefully a defender. Or a midfielder. Or a striker. It isn’t being ruled out.
+A picture of William Gallas has come out where he was holding a cigarette. Idiot. Smoking is unacceptable at Arsenal, says Arsene. You’re the one that made him captain.
That’s all for now. I won’t be able to check in much over the weekend, but will be back on Monday with some stirring thoughts from Sunday’s game. Enjoy, and don’t forget to have your say at the bottom.
