One more signing?
By: travis | August 22nd, 2008After the surprise signing of Silvestre this week, Wenger has revealed that he might not be done on the transfer market. He’s a cunning old man, he is. And, as usual, the player will probably be someone nobody expects.
“I can surprise you sometimes, as I got one in whom you did not expect, and there still might be one more player coming in.”
The usual names are being thrown around, with the likes of Gareth Barry and Xabi Alonso. But, Arsene is not one to tip anyone off, saying:
“You know the position, but I cannot tell you much more. There is interest always (in players). I do not want to give you any names.”
So it’ll be a central midfielder, and hopefully a signing that will bring a sense of relief to most Gunners fans. I truly think that they are one signing away from being a more legitimate contender (providing that the signing is an experienced central midfielder), with the likes of Tomas Rosicky, Eduardo, and Abou Diaby returning from injury as the season progresses. Alexandre Song will be back from the Olympics and could feature this weekend. Regardless, it will be interesting to keep an eye on the sort of action that takes place between now and September 1.
