Players Report, Contracts Renewed, Cesc & Melo Speculation
By: Martin | July 6th, 2009Hope everyone had a happy and safe Independence Day weekend.
Some of these are a bit old, but we’ve had three players re-up with the club over the last week or so. And they’re all very promising young players. Aaron Ramsey, Jack Wilshere, and Kieran Gibbs all signed new long-term deals with the club. All 3 are very promising young players, and this sends a clear message that Wenger views them as building blocks for Arsenal’s next generation. Gibbs is 19, Ramsey is 18, and Wilshere is just 17, yet all are already legitimate Premiership-quality players, and Gibbs and Ramsey are already battle-tested (Gibbs in the Champions League last year, Ramsey in Cardiff’s FA Cup run in 2007-2008). There are also a number of reports that van Persie has agreed in substance to a new deal with the club, but there hasn’t been official confirmation of this yet.
In other news, a lot of media outlets are reporting that Arsenal have set a price tag of £40 million on El Capitan, and that if Barca or Real Madrid were to make such a bid Cesc would be on his way. As with every other Cesc transfer story, I’m 99% sure this is completely made up to sell papers/get website hits. Wenger has come out and said that he has been building this team for several years and that he expects this team to win trophies over the next couple of seasons. Why would he sell his captain and best player just as the club is hopefully on the brink of a return to glory? I expect some sort of official refutation of these “reports” from the club soon. I believe in the First Amendment, and freedom of the press, and I understand the need to protect the identities of your sources. But it really is a sad state of affairs that so many in sports media have become so manipulative and cynical that they are willing to make up rumors and attribute them to an “insider” or “a source close to the club/player.” You’d like to think that “journalists” would be more responsible than that, but you would be wrong.
Finally, as travis posted over the weekend, there were a lot of reports that Felipe Melo was back on Arsenal’s radar screen. Apparently the buy-out in Melo’s new contract was £25 million, which was a pretty steep price, and the club reported that Arsenal was the only club who had come close to that figure. But Fiorentina was supposedly willing to lower that price somewhat if Eboue was thrown in. To £24.99 million, presumably. In all seriousness, I think Eboue has become a useful player, and £20 million or so plus Eboue would be a pretty steep price. As I’ve said, I’m not that familiar with Melo, so I won’t even pretend to offer an opinion on whether that would be a good deal for the club or not. But Melo did come out today and say that:
I have a contract with Fiorentina in which it was written that should I have a good first season, the club would have the possibility to extend my contract automatically from five to six years. They utilised this clause and I am really happy. I owe Fiorentina a lot. I arrived and I immediately became a regular. I have never been on the bench.
There’s nothing in there which says “I’m not leaving the club,” but it does seem like he’s not exactly pushing for a move away from the club. He’s a young man, playing first-team football, living in Florence, and he would get to play in the Champions League with Fiorentina next year. It’s not a bad life, so maybe he’s thinking he’ll stay there at least another year, get to showcase himself with Brazil in the 2010 World Cup, and then see what sorts of options are available to him. I’d love to be able to sign him, but I think it’s looking less and less likely.
In completely unrelated to anything news, I just wanted to say that, as someone who has an intense dislike for all things Chelsea, it is a gift from God that they just signed someone named Yuri Zhirkov. Saying it out always makes me giggle a little bit.
Finally, Arsenal players reported to training camp today, with the exception of a couple of people (Walcott, Gibbs, Fabregas, Vela) who spent a lot of time on international duty this summer. After all this summer transfer nonsense, it’ll be a relief to actually just watch some football being played and talking about that–our first friendly is just 12 days away…

when you buy players wont dont have anything in common doesnt mean that you guyz will win, the best example I am think will be next year, real madrid wont even come close to winning anything, except maybe for the la liga, best I think its a stupid league where no tactics are played.

Gooner: LOL! Well, to many eyes, EPl have no tactic. Their “Kick away the ball and let th strikers deal with it” tactic shows it. So

a stupid league where no tactic are played? Well, it it was so stupid ten how did their country won the Euro 08 and went like for 32 games unbeaten? You cannot tell me it was all about their talent. Tactics were in the game.
—>As long as I am concerned, a coach such as in Guardiola’s situation had no real tactic to do. Guardiola introduced an engineered system that worked. The players by themselves did everything. They used their owned skill to tactically dominate their opponent.
—>About the rest of la Ligua team, Gooner, you’re quite off the mark. You can see that smaller team played attractive football and try to use their head to play agaisnt bigger sides. Let’s take Osasuna as example. Why were they able to put up a good challenge to Barcelona or Real Madrid at the end of last season? What about Espanyol? They use tactic to defend and to attack.
In the other hand, when the likes of Bolton played agaisnt Arsenal, they only defended and never tried to attack. A “complete” tactic implies a defensive stratagem ad an offensive. I wouldn’t like to say that EPl has no tactics: that’s is completely false. Teas such as Arsenal ad Manchester United are wise and know how to deal agaisnt bigger threat. However, don’t say that La ligua has no tactic because, overall, it has a better tactic aspect of the game than EPl.
But, everyone must agree on that one: Serie A is the bes when it comes to tactic!

Finally:
“In England the top four are better than the ones in Spain, above all when it comes to consistency,” the Spain international told Radio Marca. “Apart from that, the rest of the teams in the Primera Liga are stronger as they have more quality.”
Fernando TorresSo, if yo consider EPl to be superior to La ligua, fine. However, in overall, la ligua possesses team with more technical ability than EPl. Hence, with more tactical abilities too.
P.S.: Torres didn’t mention abut Chelsea’s style of play which consist of playing with long balls and the boring way.

Thats what I am trying tosay about tactics, you know when to defend aand you know when to attack against what teams. for example in the EPL, west brom there best to try and play attractive football, what was the result, down to the second devision, on the other hand stoke played the worst football ive seen, but still they survived, Its not always about playing beautiful but about the tactics when to do what you are supposed to do. I am telling you, I really enjoy watching the la liga because its all about attacking, take the defensive lines of all the top 4 teams in it they all suck bad.

Adimente, I am not putting down La LIga, but the fact that Spain won the Euro 2008, is indeed the evidence that La Liga has an inferior level; aside from Barza and Real (Barza with two winning goals from an Argentine and a Camerounais). The fact: Xabi Alonso, Niño Torres, Cesc, Pepe Reina, where do they play?. The fact, three out of four semifinalists this year and for some years back have been EPL teams. I think the EPL level is a little above all others.

gigi or gooner: lol! Xabi Alonso, Niño Torres, Cesc, Pepe Reina.
Only Torres was part of the starting eleven. Furthermore, h was pale i cmparison to David illa. Torres’s contributions during the Euro 08 was somehow very little. He did some goals, I must agree with it, however, he never stood up when the team really needed him. (Well, he did score the goal agaisnt Germany no? Well, I’m not quite sure).
Fabregas’s contribution was great. He did what he had to do and I must accord yo that point.
Pepe Reina was useless. Aragones could have called Moya, Asenjo or played Valdes instead of Pepe.
Xabi Alonso had nothing to do at all during the Euro. Allthe credits go to Marcos Senna.
True players:
1)Marcos Senna (Villareal)
2)Xavi(Barcelona)
3)Iniesta(Barceloa
4)Silva(Valencia)
5)David Villa(Valencia)
6)Casillas(Real Madrid)
7)Sergio Ramos
8)Puyol\MarchenaThese players contributed much more than the aforementioned players. (Exept for Fabregas and probably Torres).
“I am not putting down La LIga, but the fact that Spain won the Euro 2008, is indeed the evidence that La Liga has an inferior level; aside from Barza and Real (Barza with two winning goals from an Argentine and a Camerounais)”
Except for Messi, because he’s an exception, Eto’o was helped and a lot by Xavi and Iniesta. And if you’re talking about the fact that Barcelona’s goal agaisnt Manchester United during the final of the champions league were made by two foreigners, then look at EPL. The league is dominated by foreigners. So what is your point?

Well, the last sentence seems pretty confusing. If you’re not putting it down, why did you say such a statement?

I am not saying that EPL is not (did you see that?), my point is that La Liga as well…years ago, when Spaniards were kings with Inter in Europe, they won the Euro, then they do well aborad and it happens again.
Hey for you not to feel bad: it also happened with France when they won the WC, Zizou, Lizarazu, Blanc , they were all away, there is nothing worong about it.
On the EPL, wll sorry to disagree with you: my point is that it has more level than the other the last years.
