Returning from the abyss
By: travis | June 7th, 2009Good day folks. Sorry to not have joined you in awhile, but with Martin running things so smoothly and MLS in full season swing I decided to take a step back from covering the Arsenal. Do me a favor and jump over to join the conversation as I gloss over all things MLS. There’s no sense in glossing over Arsenal’s 2008-2009 season — I’m not here to dig anything new up. Martin’s covered anything I could have said and then some, so a tip of the cap to him.
The silly season is what brings me back. As a blogger, it is my humble duty to scour the Internet, in search of new and usually purposeless rumors that are in most cases, completely off base. With little to nothing to write about, Martin and I are forced to rely on these unreliable sources to increase our page hits.
All joking aside — yes, I was trying to be a little sarcastic in that previous paragraph — there’s going to be a lot swirling around Arsenal this summer. With Wenger admitting to wanting to improve the defense, the name Thomas Vermaelen has emerged as a potential signing (credit to commenter third eye for the tip). While Setanta is running the story now as well saying that a fee has been agreed, I’ve read more than one opinion on that not being the case. The Daily Mirror also has something out on it. Hopefully this won’t be another saga just like every single other transfer seems to be: long, boring, and drawn out. If and when something official is heard, I’ll go with it.
A piece of advice to those following transfer rumors for Arsenal. Check out NewsNow, a UK website that compiles all related news articles in one place. Simply by clicking here, you’ll have a one stop location for all transfer news and other Arsenal related bits. And no, I’m not being paid to write that.
Last but not least — 14 Arsenal players are in action over the course of this weekend and following week. I’ll try and keep up with their status and let you know how each fared. As for me, I’m glad to be back and will be in touch soon.
