Some positive thinking (for once)
By: travis | April 11th, 2008With the weekend approaching, and what could be the Gunners last meaningful game of the season on the horizon, I just want to take this moment and be optimistic for once. This Sunday’s result aside, reflecting on what now seems like a disappointing season makes my stomach hurt. However, I’m trying to let positive thinking prevail. Hardly anyone outside Ashburton Grove thought Arsenal would make any noise this year. They were too young, Liverpool, Spurs, etc had improved too much, Wenger didn’t know what he was doing. So we’ve exceeded the pundit’s expectations. Sure, the squad needs retooling, players need to leave (Lehmann, Eboue), but with two or three signings, Arsenal could be title favorites next season. Technically, they still have a shot to somehow win it this season (not bloody likely). It’s easy to be negative when most Gooners thought the team had a legit shot title this season, but the last few months have illustrated the current difference between Arsenal and Man United/Chelsea: depth. At least we have Theo Walcott and the YouTube highlight from this week’s game. A shame that wasn’t a winner.
